I couldn't find an actual First Aid folder anywhere so I thought I'd come talk with those that are in the know.
Is the time it takes for a wound to get infected random or ....?
I'd like to be able to train a bit more FA and I can't seem to keep a wound for more than about 12 hours without bein' infected. Is thre a way to go a lenghty amount of time without becoming infected?

This is one of those semi-mysterious areas. All I can say is, as an empath with pretty good stamina, sometimes I get infected the instant my bleeder unwraps. Other times I can go many days tending away without any disease. There seems to be a big random factor, but I've got a strong feeling there are other parameters in effect as well. Being able to tend your wound down completely reduces your chance of infection, and open wounds increase the chance.

First step in the right direction would be to shower regularly, then I'd strongly suggest stop crawling around in the sewers and picking through other people's garbage getting yer wounds all mucked up.

12 hours is actually a pretty good amount of time to go without having to ask for disease to be healed.
In the meantime, be sure to know where an empath is who can take the disease for you.
Also, if you are looking for some teaching, empaths make great FA teachers as they usually have a lot of FA, teaching and charisma. Although, listening to FA classes from just about anyone would be helpful, too... thieves have a teaching requirement although not all have a lot of FA as it no longer counts in their requirements. And clerics, too...great teachers, survival secondary, so you may get some good FA from them... bah, a lot of good FA teachings out there, in all guilds.
Another way to learn FA would be the blood sucking critters...some in shard in those cloud azuzas or whatever they are, in zoluren in crocodiles, in muspar'i sandpits, too. Trouble is, I notice it's way easy to get diseased in those parts.
So, I sympathize with your predicament... wish I could offer more solutions. But, needing to find an empath every 12 hours really isn't such a bad thing ; )
I hope that someday we'll be able to make ungents and poultices for healing infection on wounds. Just like I hope someday we'll have tournaquets for stopping internal bleeders.

You mean between 0 and 120,000,000 ;)
Actually I have long wondered whether there is a 'clock' on each bleeder, which runs when the wound is open and stops when it is tended (and is reset when it is healed). Under this theory, the chance of infection increases with the clock. Although from a systems resource perspective I'd think they wouldn't want to track bleeders that way.

Before the changes FA was a 'hobby' of sorts for me, I still keep them, but only when I'm mainlnd because of infection. The only really relevent things I've noticed about infection have been covered. Swimming does seem to increase the likelyhood of contraction. The 'timer' does seem to be randomized as far as I can tell. Stamina doesn't seem to have much to do with contraction in my opinion, I only have 22 stam and I think my personal best for keeping bleeders without them getting infected is around 30 hours or so RL. Disease seems to have a random 'potency' effect too, sometimes after contracting I'll get pulses that cause both bleeders I keep to increase from slight to heavy, other times I'll end up with disease that does little to no damage to just one wound that's just scuffs. The more wounds you have, regardless of how bad, scuffs/cuts/slashes/etc, the more it increases your chances of contraction, however, I'm not sure if the severity adds to how likely contracting disease is, i.e. scuffs may only add 20% but slashes may add 60% or what have you, though I'd speculate the more severe the more it increased. That's about it from me, hope that helps. I know it's a drag trying to keep your FA moving when you live somewhere like Hara'Jaal, where finding an Empath to help with disease is harder than finding a cebi root in the middle of winter in the driving snow.
