I remember a discussion about Tenebrous Sense a long time ago and we were talking about getting rid of the spell or making it a cantrip. I hope that we get to keep the spell, mainly because cantrips don't last long enough to make them useful.

<<I thought there was a mild penalty for foraging in the dark, and ts negated that penalty? Is that incorrect?
Its not that mild, but otherwise yes that is correct. Hence why I used the phrase similar to describe the relationship between the current and proposed buffs.

>>Which is why I was surprised that something that let you see in the dark would translate to assisting your ability to forage in the day.
I think the idea is that it extends your senses of your surroundings, which naturally will help you find things better (and make up for a lack of light when you're in that situation).
Plus it's just simpler to give a buff?

Of course, now you have to argue why that doesn't also give you a perception boost*. You might appeal to the fact that moonmages muddle with purpose and intent: hiding is purposeful concealment, while the items found by foraging are not deliberately concealed.
*I understand the Magic 3.0 reasoning of no repeat buffs in a spellbook. I'm talking about the fluff justification.

Yeah, 'tenebrous' refers to the dark, which makes sense that TS would facilitate seeing at night or somewhere without a light source. What I don't understand is how that translates to foraging. Why not stealing? Or stalking? Or perception, unless spell overlap is too off limits.
Whatever the reason, if the final design of the spell is 'provides a buff to foraging', then so be it, I was simply expressing my surprise because I didn't think it logically flowed.

>>I though TS was less about a foraging bonus and more about a bonus to removing the penalties one might get doing things at night, and it just happens that the [one?] thing [left?] with a night time penalty is foraging.
This is true, but setting up a fire will also negate that penalty, its not hard to create a fire.
I had suggested at one point that TS(current version) be rolled into Clear Vision. A gm responded saying that it was possible and it wouldn't increase the spell slot cost of the spell, but it would loose its messaging because it doesn't fit with what Clear Vision does. I'd be sad to see the messaging go, but its not worth a spell slot on its own in its current form. Thus they tacked on a foraging bonus, perception bonus is out of the question since no guild is allowed to have two buffs that improve the same skill. Though I'm not sure what other skill it could boost thats not foraging, and is not covered by another skill we have.
Athletics maybe, but it doesn't make sense for the spell.
