I have a strong suspicion harvest is going to make some people especially Rangers very jealous.

Unless something VERY wrong has happened, rangers (and others) are supposed to be able to skin multiple parts from critters using the skinning mechanics once support for more parts is in place.
This is something that is supposed to be in place for new crafting.
Needless to say, if necros end up being the only ones who can take multiple parts, then rangers are going to be beyond jealous and well into pissed.

As I understand it you practice/use thantology by screwing with the corpse of a critter (or another character?) is there going to be a way to drag the corpse with you? Or carve off the bits you want? With how critters mob you these days I can see that being a little complicted trying to do rituals on a corpse while dancing with 3 more.

All part of the fun!
But seriously though, I hope this is considered somewhat - with multiple corpses things can get... messy.
I know with arrange and skin if I create a corpse before finishing the one I'm working on I frequently end up skinning one totally unarranged and then overarranging the other (So I fail).
SEND[Abasha] It warms my heart to see three people die for a cupcake.

So wait, they are going to allow pc necromancers to chop off say a finger or an ear of random dead pc , who is waiting for a Cleric or ward or whatever? Will this be a role-played out or npc issue only then?

I'm not sure where you got PCs out of that but last I heard you will not be able to do thanatological rituals on PCs.

>>Will thanatology work on entities such as companions, horses, familiars, etc then?
>>If they can be killed, possibly. Nothing you named can currently be killed though.
Actually... companion wolves older than babies can be killed via spoiled meat.
Horses I know of at least two cases in which they were killed. most recently Barola's beloved noble steed, may he rest in peaceful starry fields, a hafwa invasion with spirit drain.
Some Paladin's horse a while ago was rumored to have been, I am not sure of the precise details, but he was apparently skinned so therefore skinnable.
Familiars currently I do not believe are killable, they used to be though.

Familiars aren't currently true critters like say Guardians or Horses... they use stuff like HP to record other data for reasons that I'm sure made sense at the time. I think Ranger companions are in the same boat.
The risen system is supposed to supply the framework to converting them to real critters and allowing them to fight in combat, be killed, have spells cast at them, etc.
I don't think they're going to leave bodies, since they're mostly made of some kind of plasm.

issue with thanatology and skinning on 12/14/2009 10:04 AM CST
when doing ritual # 1, you can't do it to "other rat" or the rat that just died.
you have to type out first rat, second rat, third rat - even if there is only one rat you have to type out "first rat".
Is this intended?
The undead hordes would like to take this moment to remind you that they are quite happy to eat your brains so that you may test new depart. Please consider it.Hugs and kisses, Team Necro.
