I made my first Risen and hung out with him for a while. What I took away from the experience is that Risen produce atmospheric messages a bit too frequently, in my opinion. I was seeing 2 per minute usually; enough to be pretty noticeable. It was a bit funny, really. He went back and forth between doing his best to avoid drawing attention and addressing me as 'master' for all the world to hear.
Could the frequency of those messages please be tuned down some? It would also be REALLY nice if we had a 'shut up' command to turn them off entirely.

Risen made from a lot of parts can be a bit of an eye strain to parse. It would be nice if the system could 'bundle' similar parts together.
So instead of this: The risen has an ogre torso as its main torso, has an ogre head to control its motor functions, an ogre arm stitched to it, an ogre arm stitched to it, an ogre arm stitched to it, an ogre arm stitched to it, an ogre leg stitched to it, and an ogre leg stitched to it. The risen has 2 eyes.
It would be something like this: The risen has an ogre torso as its main torso, has an ogre head to control its motor functions, four ogre arms, and two ogre legs. The risen has 2 eyes.

Seems as though a few creatures that maybe should be able to be butchered can't be because they are considered undead. Specifically, Sluaghs in their description say they are alive. These other two are listed as undead on elanthipedia, but, I figured I'd ask anyway. Maelshyvean shadow beasts and cinder beasts are also classified as undead when it comes to rituals and so you can't butcher them. Is this intentional?

Until Necros came along, there wasn't that big of a difference between cursed/undead on the player side, so the nuances of how to categorize them wasn't always there, and until a player updates a page to properly flag something as cursed vs undead, it doesn't get updated.
That said, I think slaughs as cursed, and I'm not sure if we can butcher cursed critters.

I think that living cursed creatures are fine. I was able to butcher adan'f without issue, for example.
>>There was some IC indication that there may be unique interactions if using Maelshyvean creature parts. Has anyone found any that are actually butcherable?
I took a trip into Zaulfung and Maelshyve's fortress to find out whether or not the creatures there could be butchered.
Sluaghs, shadow beasts, and cinder beasts could all be dissected, but could not be butchered. Trying to butcher them would return the same message: Rituals do not work upon the undead.

It would be neat if appraise (or recall) could give info about if something is living, undead, or cursed, with the amount of detail on the latter two dependent on guild (ie: Necromancers, Clerics, and Empaths should be able to tell the difference between undead and cursed, while other guilds might just know if something is alive or "wrong").

Question about Butchery.
I'm not at a point where I want to make a risen yet, but I learned the butchery ritual for the sake of "training" it. Is this a skill that I need to work into my combat routine forevermore in order for me not to have to "backtrain" it later? Essentially another skill, only invisible?
Or is it more like bonding a divination tool where if you dedicate yourself to it you can max out in a few months? Or something else.
Thanks!

Re: Risen Feedback on 03/09/2018 01:02 PM CST
If you dedicate yourself to leveling up your butchery skill it shouldn't take as long as bonding a tool.
The way it seems to work is when you initially learn the butchery ritual you receive your circle*2 amount of skill. So if you were circle 100 you would get 200 in your invisible butchery skill/counter. From then on whenever you butcher a part off of a creature there's a chance you'll improve that skill. It can be a normal improvement which is worth +1, or a great improvement which is worth +2. The stronger the creature the more likely you are to get the improvement.
The tiers of butchery skill seem to be 100 ranks apart. 100 > 200 > 300 and so on. You can check what tier you are on by asking the lab NPC about butchery again.

I just encountered a bit of an oddity while trying to outfit my Risen. Is it value that prevents them from accepting certain items or something else?
They would accept/wear these slippers, appraised value of 11,875 Kronars:
https://elanthipedia.play.net/Item:Dainty_black_velvet_slippers_with_polished_silver_buckles
But they refused to accept these, appraised value of 475 Kronars:
https://elanthipedia.play.net/Item:Doeskin_slippers_with_cross-stitched_seams
Both were freshly store bought and not registered. Both came off-the-shelf via SHOP, not from a catalog. Whatever's preventing them from accepting things, I +1 the suggestion that we be able to force them to take it anyway. Especially now that RETRIEVE is a command.

Some feedback on abilities:
Move - Seems pointless with Find, unless you want to RP it that way for some reason
Chorus - Can't honestly see a use PVP wise here, but I don't PVP and if I did I'd probably spend RT elsewhere
Bleed - Seems fairly useful, not sure how long it lasts?
Find - Useful, pretty fast too
Watch - You get to see the room once with the first watch, presumably can refresh with another watch to make look totally obsolete
Look - Pointless with Watch
Say - Feels kind of lackluster to spend a slot on this
Safeguard - Very nice, super reactive and snappy
Attack - Completely pointless, you can't send your risen to find and attack someone from afar and you have to manually tell it to attack each individual NPC or person, I honestly cannot see the point of this
Butcher - Kind of pointless if you have decent skill, it'd be more worthy of a slot if it helped you, let you have only one free arm, AND took the specimen to a cold locker for you
Perfect blend it seems so far:
Humanoid meant to be available in town with Bleed, Safeguard, Watch, Find, Say

It would be really cool if butcher made it so I could do so one-handed. My script automatically stows my weapon before butchering and re-wields it after, but not having to do that would be a nice QoL improvement/advantage.

Re: Risen Feedback on 03/15/2018 11:18 AM CDT
It still seems to me like defensively Risen are far too weak to make use of many of the abilities. I'm not suggesting that Risen need be as offensively powerful as Zombies or Mudmen, but the defensive appraisals people are posting make me think they're not going to able to be used for anything other than the familiar-like abilities.
I'll have to test with a super monstrous Risen given some heavy armor/shield, but I feel some dials still need to be adjusted here for anything pertaining to combat.

Doesn't it? I was just butchering with a weapon in hand, figured it was related to the butcher command.
Things I'd like to see added:
Vault access
Locker delivery
Repairs
access to the shop/order/buy verbs
Bank access
pay taxes
at level combat
an option for risen made only from parts of one <creature> type (say all jackal parts) to be labeled as 'a risen <creature>' (a risen jackal)

A good idea, and one we initially wanted to use, but the vault system is by necessity a complex beast and Risen interaction with it is an extremely big task. We had to table the idea for the sake of time and sanity.
I honestly don't foresee it happening, but it's for the technical concerns rather than conceptual ones.

People-like Risen would really benefit from a Rite of Contrition ability. It could be accomplished in a couple of ways, I think:
1) make it like the other abilities that you have to teach them. You can toggle it on/off via a command.
2) make a metaspell for ROC that extends the effect (preferably remotely) to my Risen so long as I have ROC active.

I'd love to see this, especially without the parenthesis. Of course, I'll also laugh if this somehow turns Necromancers into the best guild for creating NPCs for RP purposes, womp womp.

I feel like this is more like what Liturgy does in partnership with RoG, but otherwise yeah (Kinda imagining a Risen having RoC put up around it and instantly exploding as it's stripped of its Necromantic energies). One more suggested option, though:
3) Lunar Aura Device-like Device that Necros could create that allows their Risen (or other Necros, or anyone with some kind of Necromantic taint, or maybe even anyone with Sorcerous taint?) mask that they're currently in "a bad place"

Regarding combat-utility for Risen, from earlier in the thread:
This was primarily my responsibility which, due to recent problems in my real life involving the health of my family, got reassigned really late in the process. We tentatively have a bit more coming in combat-utility and a Risen-only Warding spell. No ETA, but the complaint that they're squishy and not doing as much in combat as they could is understood.

>No ETA, but the complaint that they're squishy and not doing as much in combat as they could is understoo
Thanks for the update on that. Are there additional non-combat abilities planned?
Also, as a thought, presently, anytime someone sees a 'commoner' or 'assistant' or similar around anywhere, it's pretty obvious that it's a Risen for the same reason people wearing belt knives at the guilds release were understood to be Necromancers. Are there any plans on normalizing the presence of these entities to make the meta a little less obvious? Perhaps killing them in JUSTICE zones is considered murder?

Appreciate you hearing us out on this. I honestly don't mind if they attack like a wet noodle, but I do think they need to be much more survivalable.
>>Perhaps killing them in JUSTICE zones is considered murder?
This would be a huge boon. There's no reason the uneducated masses would see someone killing a convincing person-like Risen as anything other than murder.
