Don't know if I should bug this in game or if it even is a bug (I hope it is). I looked around and couldn't find any topics addressing the subject but if there were and I missed them, apologies.

For some reason having this spell up makes it impossible for me to use my crossbow.
I cut out some of the log so that this post isn't ridiculously long, but I can post it in full if need be. Basically though, with HoW up I can't hit anything, when I release it, I have no problems whatsoever.
I haven't tried with my other ranged weapons yet but here's the result of my attempting with a crossbow:

I tried to rule out everything I could, and I'm fairly certain it's the HoW spell. Maybe the spell was designed this way, if so and I missed that, sorry.

Did you only hit the la'tami once with your crossbow, as the log indicates? Your crossbow skill does look a bit low for la'tami as well, although your stats may compensate for that.

Before implementing using HoW I easily kill them with crossbow. I'm actually backtraining which is why even though the ranks may look low I have no problem killing them in three - four hits.

Stats:
Strength : 44 + Reflex : 50
Agility : 40 Charisma : 35
Discipline : 50 Wisdom : 52
Intelligence : 55 Stamina : 40 +

Concentration : 272 + Max : 272

Favors : 11
TDPs : 557

I might have only put one actual hit in the log (thought I included two with both broad tip bolt and slender tip bolt) but I've been in la'tami for a few days like I said and easily kill them with crossbow.

You did actually have two hits shown. In reading the log, I assumed you had two characters or someone else in there with you since the log shows the name, instead of 'you,' for one of the hits.

Your missile mastery undoubtedly plays a part, too.

It seems unlikely this is an intended feature of the spell, but it's definitely possible HoW is oddly buggy. I haven't noticed HoW affecting ranged at all (I typically use thrown, however) and haven't heard about this from anyone else before.

You're right, it was another character just to make sure that the bolt wasn't the issue. I have pages of hitting them with the same crossbow and same bolts for the past two days before I decided to put up HoM thought and even now I hit them 100% of the time even tho my crossbow is only 110 and missile mastery is 122. I can post these logs but it's really redundant, I'm 99% certain something is up with the spell. I've tried other tactics as well and have eliminated it down to this only happening when I have the spell up.

Was it HoW that had a 2.0 version that penalized offense, or was that another Paladin spell?

This is just such a weird bug I'm trying to think where to start looking - My best guess is it's a weird hard coded exception somewhere in core combat but the fact that only ranged is suffering from it is doubly weird.

PvP against a non-caster its pretty nice, and I find it more useful hunting then TR anymore, if I'm attacking with a non-ranged TR's balance boost isn't too big but reactionary stuns when something connects is hilarious.

SR had the offensive penalty (as Sam states). HOW just added stance points (as Sam states).

To make matters more unusual, it appears to me to only impact crossbow and bow. I do not feel the penalty with Heavy Thrown. That being said, my HT skill is significantly better than my crossbow and bow skills so I could just be plain wrong.

Uh, and hunting undead effectively?

I haven't noticed a change in my Paladins crossbow use, at ~120 ranks he can hit middle deer just fine. Not sure if the values too small to use or the range of middle deer makes this a non-issue.

True, but there are not alot of undead critters worth hunting.

I don't notice a huge difference in combat with TR or HOW up.

And as far as you not noticing it with your crossbow, IDK maybe deer suck.

I don't have a log, but I took notes from a hunt: with HoW up my average shots/kill on middle deer was 6.4 Without HoW up, my average shots/kill on middle deer was 6.2. I assume I'm just within the whatever range that makes it a non issue, as that seems well within the noise.

>True, but there are not alot of undead critters worth hunting.

I dunno, at the very least it's nice to have the option available while moving up the ladder. But yeah, I find the retaliatory stun to be entirely useless; unless I've observed incorrectly, having one of the four critters mobbed on you stunned when it gets in a lucky shot is hardly all that useful. I'd rather HoW provide some additional undead specific functionality, like also serve as MPP as an undead specific damage reducer, or something similar.

I'm finding in the upper end things land constant low grade hits, making the kick back wonderful. Tanked balance critters hit me less, and dodge me less, win win.

Having really good mentals, Wisdom and Intel help alot with this spell, I believe charisma is the third stat. I really love this spell, at the moment with a 7 cast and hunting at level mostly every time something even grazes me they get a light or mod stun.

My experience is the same. Now, granted my character is at 100 each for Wis/Int. NOt sure you have to be maxed out to get great use out of HOW.

The major downside right now is you simply can not use Crossbow with the spell. Same with bow, but my ranks are so small with a bow I could just be wrong on that front.

It's spirit v fortitude so wisdom matters most, then charisma and lastly intelligence. It helps that we can buff the first and last. I don't know what the weights are for each stat but if the past offers a hint, the primary stat for the offense portion of the contest is probably substantially more important than the tertiary stat.

I believe the only non-spirit debilitation we have is halt, which should be mind (intelligence, disc then wisdom IIRC) v. willpower. Makes sense that most are spirit.
