As of this morning, I've lost internet connection at home and will be unable to host the second part in the lecture series in the Plat instance. As of this afternoon, I've no update on what's wrong with the internet or when it'll be back up.

I wanted to give you guys a heads up just in case I need to cancel Sat's lecture for Prime. I will make a definite decision by tomorrow after I check more on my internet tonight when I'm home.

As of this morning, my internet is fixed - whether it's completely stable I don't know so I'm going to give tomorrow's event a go.

3pm EST! Be there!

I just wanted to write a quick note thanking Maece & co. for putting these together. While I was a bit late for the one yesterday (got caught up in the Rivalry Saturday games), what I heard sounded pretty cool, and I'm looking forward to the next one about artifacts pertaining to the guild. For those of you who couldn't be there, Oane told us who the original seven councilmembers were and gave a brief overview of their lives. I've posted the log from when I got there below. If anyone can supplement it with the first part that I missed, I would appreciate it.

One thing that I don't think was asked was that if the original council was active around the time of Lanival (I understand it was founded in 8 BL), which side of the Resistance War did they fight on? Or did they just sit it out?

~Thilan

[Paladins' Guild, The Great Chamber]
Tapestries and flickering torches line the walls of the circular meeting room. Eight sets of silverwood benches, arranged in ascending rows, face a central speaker's podium. The topmost row, a full three Tog-lengths above the main floor, sits at eye level with a large chandelier that hangs from the ceiling. You also see some brass-bound ironwood doors and a winding ironwood staircase.
Also in the room: Eleftheria who is sitting, Corrial who is sitting, Tristtan who is sitting, Sir Sebestyen who is sitting, Guild Researcher Oane, Sir Naelidaan who is sitting, Squire Palorn, and Legendary Paladin Ellsdragon who is sitting.
Obvious exits: none.

Oane stretches his arms out and adjusts his spectacles. "Let's see," he starts.

Oane lectures, "These three would travel together for five years before they found other followers: Jerthay and Jenton. "

Oane lectures, "These two were twin brothers. The younger of the two, Jerthay, was called to be a paladin first. But his fear of separation made him hide and reject his calling until his brother was called. In most documentation, you will find that one name is usually associated with the other's."

You see Guild Researcher Oane Hannitraulm, a Human Paladin.
He has black eyes. He is bald, with pale skin.
He is aged for a Human.
He has a thick bushy mustache that droops heavily on his upper lip and a long shaggy beard.
He is in good shape.

He is wearing an ink-stained leather scholar's satchel, some brass-riveted jousting plate, a blue linen tabard dyed with the bright green emblem of the lion of Chadatru, a pair of burgundy leather boots lined in soft black wool, a jadeite gwethdesuan, a kyanite gwethdesuan and a black linen bag.

You see Squire Palorn, an Elven Paladin.
She has pointed ears and crystal blue eyes. Her silver hair is very long and thick, and is worn loose. She has tanned skin.
She is young for an Elf.
She is in good shape.

She is holding a thick oak standard bearing a flowing black silk banner embroidered with the Paladin's Guild crest in her right hand.
She is wearing a sturdy canvas backpack that is dusty and roadworn, a kyanite gwethdesuan and a jadeite gwethdesuan.

Oane places both hands on the podium and says, "In fact, it is believed that they were so connected, that when Jerthay died of a plague, his brother did not live long after that."

Oane lectures, "We actually have many letters between the brothers. Early on, there were some campaigns that Jenton went on while Jerthay could not. We learned much about the other councilors from these letters."

Oane says, "Only two more that I will be covering today."

Oane licks his finger and flips through a few more pages in his book. Pulling out another bookmark, he says, "The next person is Dreldan."

Oane says, "He is definitely not what people think of a stereotypical paladin."

Oane lectures, "In fact, when we have discussions about him, one of the inside jokes is that he is a perfect example of a paladin not called by the gods based on his personality."

Oane snickers to himself for a moment and then regains his composure. "Jerthay was not the only one of this group who rejected his calling at first. Dreldan also did this for many years."

Oane lectures, "He was a mercenary for hire but the gods did not give up on him. We aren't sure exactly what made Dreldan "see the light." But we do know that he befriended a priest at some point and finally accepted his calling."

Oane says, "Another fact we know about Dreldan is that he ended up being the first guildleader in Crossing."

Oane nods and says, "Yes, we've known this for years. Please don't ask me why this information was never made public knowledge."

Oane lectures, "Dreldan's time there was short-lived as he was already an old man, but since he had overseen the construction of the guildhall, it was only natural he headed it up."

Oane says, "The final councilor of the original council was Medern."

Oane looks through his book before lifting up the book and snatching up a page.

Oane lectures, "Though he was the last to join the group, Medern was the first guildleader in our history."

Oane nods.

Oane lectures, "He headed up the Theren guildhall during its original construction until its untimely demise. As many of you know, a true guildhall does not currently exist in Theren."

Oane says, "I couldn't say why it was never rebuilt; I only know what happened to the first one and only one. However... I digress. "

Oane lectures, "We do know that Medern was a follower of Syal before he was even called upon the gods. He followed Syal and his group learning of Syal's teachings until he was then called by the gods to serve as a paladin. We have no reason to not believe that Medern was Syal's first squire."

Oane lowers his voice and says, "Although Medern lived to an old age, his murder led into a dark time in paladin history... Yes, murder."

Oane says, "And there you have it. Our original seven councilors."

Oane closes the book on the podium and places it inside his satchel.

Oane says, "Do we know more about these figures? Yes, we do. However, again there is only so much one can share regarding who they were and what they have done."

Oane smiles.

Oane asks, "Are there any questions?"

Oane puts his spectacles in his scholar's satchel.

Ellsdragon ponders.

You raise your hand.

Oane nods to you.

You say, "Greetings, I am Squire Anthetir of Therengia."

Oane smiles.

Oane says, "Good evening."

You say, "You mentioned an original guildhall in Therengia that was destroyed. The current home of the town's offices, Ibec Hall, was rumored at one point to house a guildhall."

You ask, "Has your research shone any light onto this connection?"

Oane ponders.

Oane says, "Nothing documented that I am aware of."

Oane says, "I know there have been attempts to rebuild it."

Oane says, "And the council has been talking about it for a number of years now."

You nod.

Oane says, "But historically, I'm unaware of any new guildhall successfully ever built."

You say, "I for one think that having the guild within the Keep reinforces our position as defenders of Therengia and the patronage of House Theren that we enjoy."

Oane says, "Yes, I would enjoy a real office myself too."

Oane winks at you.

You say, "Although I am certainly not opposed to more amenities being added if His Grace does a thorogh renovation of the Keep."

Oane ducks his head.

You chuckle.

Oane asks, "Any other questions?"

Eleftheria raises her hand.

Oane nods to Eleftheria.

Eleftheria asks, "I apologize if this was already mentioned, but will this information be published?"

Oane says, "Not any time soon."

Oane says, "This is merely a lecture."

Eleftheria nods.

Eleftheria smiles.

Oane says, "But perhaps I will find time to write thorough books in the future."

Oane asks, "Anyone else?"

Sebestyen raises his hand.

Oane nods to Sebestyen.

Oane smiles.

Sebestyen says, "You spoke earlier about vision..."

Oane nods.

Sebestyen asks, "These seven brought our current vision then?"

Oane asks, "Could you elaborate your question?"

Sebestyen says, "What I mean to say...their ideals and precepts are still the code of our guild"

Oane says, "Yes, that is correct."

Sebestyen nods.

Sebestyen says, "Tis as I thought....you were speaking of the time before then.."

Oane says, "The paladin code was primarily based on his ideals."

Oane says, "What occurred prior to these seven councilors was simply unorganized and lacking in real leadership."

Oane says, "There was no real direction in what to do with paladins."

Sebestyen says, "I see..thank you."

Oane says, "People felt the calling but didn't understand what it meant."

Oane nods.

Oane says, "My next lecture will focus on some artifacts."

Oane asks, "Until then, any last questions?"

Oane says, "Well, thank you for attending tonight's lecture. I hope to see you all at the next one."

Eleftheria smiles.

Tristtan stands up.

Eleftheria looks at Oane and applauds!

You applaud.

Palorn moves forward to stand beside Oane.

Sebestyen applauds.

Tristtan says, "thank you for your time, very informative"

Naelidaan applauds.

Ellsdragon looks at Oane and applauds!

Sebestyen stands up.

Corrial stands up.

Sebestyen bows to Oane.

Tristtan looks at Oane and applauds!

Oane bows.

Sebestyen says, "Aye, appreciate your time"

You stand back up.

Naelidaan stands up.

Eleftheria quietly asks, "Could someone possibly fill me in on the first three Councilors?"

Eleftheria gnaws on her lip.

Tristtan bows to Oane.

Sebestyen smiles at Oane.

Eleftheria says, "I apologize for being so tardy."

You nod at Eleftheria, in complete agreement with her views.

Ellsdragon stands up.

You say, "Likewise."

Oane asks, "Well Palorn, we ready for the long haul back?"

Oane smiles at Palorn.

Palorn says, "Of course, Sir."

Eleftheria stands up.

Oane holds hands with Palorn.

Oane bows.

Guild Researcher Oane's group went through some brass-bound ironwood doors.

Sebestyen ponders.

Eleftheria asks, "Was it Syal, some female, Hraige, Jerthay, Jenton, Dreldan, and Medern?"

Tristtan nods to Eleftheria.

Tristtan smiles.

Legendary Paladin Ellsdragon went through some brass-bound ironwood doors.

Eleftheria asks Tristtan, "Pardon, but who was the second one? The female?"

Sebestyen says, "Csilla"

Tristtan says, "Csilla was the female, she was the third"

Eleftheria says, "Ah, thank you."

Tristtan says, "safe paths friends"

Tristtan waves.

You ask, "It sounds like Syal was the first to feel the calling?"

Tristtan went through some brass-bound ironwood doors.

Eleftheria says, "I believe so."

Eleftheria nods to you.

Sebestyen says, "He was first to want to organize those of the calling into a guild "

Eleftheria asks, "And the first Councilor as well?"

Sebestyen says, "The others followed him and made the first council"

Eleftheria smiles.

Eleftheria nods to Sebestyen.

Sebestyen says, "Around 8BL"

I have the log of the Plat lecture. Not being a Paladin I asked a couple different questions. If any would like that slant let me know.

I'm definitely interested, in fact I'm compiling a list for Oane for next time. ;)

If you don't want to post it you can email it to telger@play.net. Thanks.

I'll post the Q & A part tonight - it's not very extensive as Oane had to move on so I limited my questions. Unfortunately with the timing of the Plat lecture I was the only one that made the event. I hope to see more at the second lecture, particularly some of the Paladins.

As a Dwarf my interest lay in Oane's "The Last Days of Hraige" and the items in the Hibarnhvidar Paladin Guild. (I hope I got that book title correct - going off what seems to be a rapidly failing memory.) If you haven't read the book it does offer some things not covered by Oane's lecture which if memory serves me correctly also offered some things not in the book. Also if anyone hasn't visited the Paladin Guild in Hibarnhvidar yet I would recommend it. The trip there isn't dangerous (I'm a very young Empath-in-Training) and cost less then 1 silver dok (each direction). Hardest part is the mud on the road to Illiya Taipa if you have low or no Escaping skill, unless you make a wrong turn. The critters are not kind to the young.

Preamble: I had already read "The Last Days of Hraige" and had wondered about the bonding Hraige mentioned that he never got around to explaining. The book also delves a bit into what the lecture covered. I had also been thoroughly exploring Hibarnhvidar and had become well acquainted with the Paladin Guild facility there. So without further prattle...

Respectfully submitted,
Asbhuan of Plat
Urrem'tier's Empath-in-Training

>Oane says, "Do you have any questions? Not sure if I'm able to answer though."
>You quietly ask, "Yes, I do if I may?"
>Oane nods.
>Oane smiles.
>You quietly ask, "I have read your account of the last days of Hraige. What is the bonding he mentions?"
>Oane says, "We aren't sure exactly. There's many many many speculations."
>You quietly ask, "Such as?"
>Oane says, "From some magical binding that they received from the gods all the way to a good laugh that they all shared together."
>Oane asks, "My personal thoughts?"
>You nod to Oane.
>Oane says, "Something that Syal did that made him an avatar."
>Oane says, "And that the others were there to experience it."
>Oane says, "There's nothing to support that theory though."
>You quietly say, "Reading between his lines it seems...possible."
>Oane nods to you.
>Oane says, "The Council refuses to state anything as fact unless they know it really is."
>Oane says, "I suspect we may never find out but as we slowly uncover more documentation on those seven, things slowly will come to light."
>You quietly ask, "Also I saw at least six if not seven sets of armor in the Guild Hall of Hibarnhvidar. A comment on that?"
>Oane says, "Ah yes."
>Oane smiles at you.
>Oane says, "I absolutely love that place."
>Oane says, "I need to go back as soon as I can."
>Oane grins.
>Oane says, "We don't know whose armor those are."
>Oane says, "Or, were."
>Oane says, "The ones down in the burial chamber we believe to be Emille's."
>Oane says, "It's a reasonable belief."
>Oane says, "But the ones upstairs, we have no idea."
>You quietly say, "They do fit the descriptions of the first seven though."
>Oane says, "I know some were passed down through the generations."
>Oane says, "And some may be. I've no proof that any of them ever went to the Dwarven homeland."
>Oane says, "I know that Syal did not as the guildhall was not built there."
>Oane says, "But some may have visited later before their deaths, I'm not sure."
>You quietly say, "Then perhaps they were fashioned to match."
>Oane says, "It's certainly possible."
>Oane says, "They all appear to be quite old."
>Oane says, "But they could easily be old replicas."
>Oane says, "Hraige was a Dwarf. It's possible he went there."
>You quietly say, "That is my impression from gleanings in the libraries I have found."
>Oane says, "I think he was from there, but I don't know if he went back there after being called as a paladin."
>Oane says, "That's what I don't know."
>Oane says, "It's amazing how much information we have. Yet, it's hard to make sense out of much of it."
>Oane asks, "Will you be attending my second lecture?"
>You quietly say, "I have intention to be here yes."
>Oane says, "I'm glad! To whet your interest, the title is called "Artifacts in Existence and Legend.""
