I apologize if it has been discussed before, but what is the reasoning behind taking the title away from females?
Or if it is so obviously a male title, why was it made available for us in the first place? I for one liked it.

Sir is an extremely gender specific title (male). The equivalent for females is Dame.
As for why it was previously available, dunno. The old title system wasn't very consistent from what I was able to know of it, with some titles being made specifically male/female and some not. Of course, most of what I know comes from player sites so much of it probably is impacted by player-initiated typos and such.
