I was just wondering if anyone had some capped half plate stashed in their vaults collecting dust that they would be willing to sell.

I'm mainly looking for something that weighs around 400 stones that is either moderately strong or better. My IM is Tarlok21, so if you have some and are willing to sell it at a reasonable price, please feel free to contact me. I'll also be in Shard for a little bit if you feel like getting a hold of me IG.

Thanks

400 stone capped half plate is only possible with a dust, which has fairly sturdy construction.

That's probably why I was requesting a set that was around 400 stones. <g>

It IS possible with good construction. I'm just not sure who has the skill to make it these days. Think I remember Profesie used to make them back in the day but he hasn't been around much. I'll ask him next time he comes online.

Heh. I asked Calemnon specifically about that last night. He was speaking about 10:1 dust mix. Most of the halfplates around these days seem to be of the 500+ stone variety.

Didn't Madigan make a really nice one?

Correct, its possible to make 400 stone plate without overdusting. Though nobody has the skill yet to cap it yet, thefore folks go the other way and sacrifice construction for protection, absorbs and weight. Settling for fairly sturdy construction to get Half Plate that protects and absorbs like 490 stone capped field plate yet hinders only like capped LC. Oddly i used to be opposed to this kinda forging thinking whats the point of makin stuff with that lousy construction right? Now i really dont care cose the folks that ask for it know exactly what they getting and i belt em on the head a few times with a big sword telling em just remember the construction is only fairly sturdy, this way if they break there 35 plat half plate its there own stupid fault.

And then they come back and ask you to make em a new one for another 35 plat!!! gotta love how the economy works, only wish more "not-so-bright-people" would rather use fairly sturdy armor ::whistles:: and go places that destory it quick.

I am on the fence, regarding selling lower quality items.

I won't say I haven't, but I reduce the cost significantly. Relayer has been a great help and a valuable friend for looking over my work, and suggesting a price based on the quality. I feel that if a significantly better forger, whose been in the market a long time is willing to tell me whats junk, and whats not, and help me get going with sales, I will respect his opinion.

There are other folks, I've found (mostly via the Trader I use), who are willing to establish a relationship with a forger, and purchase the "better than storebought, but not quite capped" stuff. I am fortunate that Nyken is a very aggressive, knowledgable trader with her own market stall, and pushes me to make better stuff, and lots of it. We discuss prices, as well as the pros and cons of pieces I finish so Nyken can educate the buyers, who may or may not know what they are getting, or why 1 stat is different from thier friends armor.

And then there are the folks who expect you to drop everything, and make them up a set, or sets of armor. My time is potential income, and I have no qualms about tacking on a few extra plat for rush orders.

I am very grateful to Nyken for selling my armors. I could not have made the better quality armors I can without the income and the time saved that she spent selling it. I was able to gain more armor/mech skill, and work on refining mixes, which for me, was a long process to get best apps at lowest weight.

I kinda dragged this off topic a little, but thats how I get around the lower quality stuff that I make. There is a market for it, but I wouldn't ever try to do it without a very good trader helping me.
