How about Soulstone inlays into the hilt of a weapon, or across the breastplate in armor or a band across the forehead of a helm that would show the soul state in the rub verb of the paladin wearing it. Or even a Soulstone choker or collar would be sweet.

in terms of the earlier armor idea thing. How about 2 type armor, Torso only, that Was composed of like Half HP or LP, and Half HC, or Half Leather and Half LC or HC, only complimentary combinations tho, Like no leather/HP cause that would just be kinda silly i think and prolly unrealistic(in dr terms heh). And any experience doled out to the Item would be split between the 2 armor types. Im thinking of those Piecemeal outfits you see in the DnD books, where a fighter would have a metal breastplate extending only over the collar and pectorals, and the solarplexus and down was all chain, That would be intresting, even if there was increased hindrance modifiers or it was more difficult to train it down/off.

I find something inherently wrong with buying a soulstone (set into anything) from a shopkeeper or merchant. I know Barbarians have amulets to check their inner fire, but well...they are Barbarians. Soul seems like something fairly spiritual, and thus being able to check it without going to the Guild should take some effort or searching. I just don't think going into a shop and plunking down a few gold or plat is the answer. I have no problem setting them into things. There were those empty jewelry settings and pouches with gems sold at a festival or merchant or something, that allowed you to set a gem inside of the blank setting. It would be nice if we could do that with soulstones (perhaps create more things that we could set it into), but I just find something wrong with buying the stone itself from a merchant or shopkeeper.

In some ways, I agree, but as one of the many that killed 1.3345 million souls, only to have a warmie go there for about five minutes, and hand me a pair saying "these watcha wanted?", I have to really wonder. Maybe a small easy quest for the younger types, or the guildleaders gifting them after earning the first glyph. But as it stands now, when I meet a younger paladin in need of one, I just hire a pair of bored warmages or moonies, to go stomp on souls in haven a while.

I think going up there and sitting in that house for days on end is your quest for the soulstone. i know i worked for mine. i have been givin a few from other adventures to pass on to younger Paladins. I think the rarety of them is a good thing. Maybe make them a little bit more easy to come buy while hunting, it does seem to be a ridiculous number of souls to kill. Though some poeple have killed 10 and found one while others hundreds of em and still have none.

I agree not buying the stones themselves, but possibly a mercent in the paladin guild, by the pally store, that would make jewlery with stones you bring em, maybe once a week or so the mercent is there, bigger items would take more stones.

This could maybe open the door to setting them in armor and weapons, that would protect/inflict damage to undead depending on the paladins soulstate.

Just a thought.

The only issue i would have with this approach: If soulstones become needed to make soulstone based items, you'll have dozens of elder paladins sitting in that house killing souls in 1 to 2 hits while the younger paladins are still trying to get their first stone...
I like the idea of having to get the stones ourselves.. but perhaps make them drop from a harder critter to deter elders from taking over the haven house?

i wouldn't say every undead creature should drop them, but i think at least one for every 50 or so ranks of weapons should drop them with the same frequence, if something like this is to come available.

They drop on the Tortured Souls in the Abbey near Reavers. Those souls are a little harder than the ones in the Haven house.

And even I don't hunt the Abbey Tortured Souls.. cause they HURT. Not as bad as the Zombies.. but really recommend a high level team, including a cleric to DR them and bless yer blades in between swarms.

Ohh.. and those souls drop 1 soulstone per few hundred killed too.

I've got a couple ideas on the future of soulstones. Nothing radical right now. Hopefully if we do move forward with major soulstone expansion, we'll cover our bases on obtaining them. No clue how just yet though. I really wouldn't count on seeing the soulstones themselves in a shop though.
