Sorry things have been quiet recently -- The events I had planned for you have been pushed back slightly, but they should be back on track after Hollow Eve.

Anyhow, just two minor questions for you all. Nothing deep here, just looking for first impressions really.

1) While fleshing out Kaldar lore (A major focus right now) would you prefer I focus on older history (What lead to the Kaldar splintering from the Gorbesh? What was life like back then?) or on more current events (Where did all the Kaldar end up after migrating to the provinces? What have they been doing since they got there? What ever happened with that prophecy thing?).

2) Does your Kaldar follow the Thirteen or the Albarian Gods? Which one? Why?

I feel like the former stuff might lead to the latter stuff eventually explaining itself.

While not really a Temple-approved viewpoint, Pureblade sees the Immortals as the local "gods in charge", so while he has plenty of respect for Tieheq, he figures it doesn't hurt to acknowledge and honor the local folks.

1) I'm equally torn between old and new.

2) The Thirteen. Everild (Kuniyo). Haven't gotten that far yet.

I'm inclined to the idea of learning from the past to explain the present.

one of my kaldar follows Chadatru. Paladin, Adopted into a Therengian family and therefore took on the gods of the surrounding culture, identifies as Kaldar.

the other for the present time <a commoner> has tendencies towards being a wayward follower of Xoslurion, despises the 13 <also plays as a "gorbesh left behind during the war", and is quite bitter over that fact> but eventually will reject the Albarian deities as well. That character is bound for the Necromancer guild eventually << so asking what god he or she follows is rather pointless. :-)

I personally would like to see more of the older lore; It would help Kaldar players who want to play as something besides oversized humans. ;)

My Kaldaran characters tend to follow the 13- Especially Everild. They arrived in the Kermorian provinces while young- in fact, it's not impossible for them to have been born there.

First the caveat that I don't play my Kaldar presently, and not sure when or if I will again. That out of the way...

1) As others have said, I'd prefer more of the old lore, since that should logically lead to the where, how and why of modern Kermorian Kaldar.

2) My Kaldar is a Chadatru worshiping Paladin, who also (privately) pays homage/gives deference to his ancestral gods, though he know's enough to recognize he doesn't know how to properly worship them. As far as they go, based on what he does know, he favors Xosiurion.

I'm also in agreement with the majority thus far; explanation of the past can lead into the state of Kaldar-ness in the present.

My Kaldar is from a family that greatly venerates Orisas and has many family ties to her worship. This survived even once his family emigrated from Albaria. They believe that regardless of where a Gorbesh or Kaldar finally falls, she will take that spirit under her care. However, since they find themselves in a land where other gods hold sway, they have found it wise to seek their favor - especially Eylhaar who shares much in common with their goddess.

1. I tend to agree with the rest of the people who have posted here. We've got fairly little IG past lore on Kaldar to base our characters off of, and I think the modern culture would kind of flow out of having more concrete past lore.

2. Maybe just to be contrarian, but all of my Kaldar characters (and even my Gnome) I play as Gorbesh and so worship the 10 over the Thirteen. Jerecis is an avid disciple of Misiumos and considers her his true mother, and Iraujin serves Sraxaec.
However, as Pureblade stated, the Thirteen are definately in charge in Kermoria, so ignoring their power would be foolish at best. With that in mind, Jerecis offers pelts to Kuniyo for his favors, and Iraujin tends to follow Eylhaar since being a cleric IG without one of the Thirteen to follow is fairly pointless.
(Of course we could always just get real favor-giving altars dedicated to the 10 and make this a moot point, PLEASE RAESH!, heh)

I like it seems many others think that the Older Lore will allow for current Lore to be extropoliated, and filled out more as it comes to that.

My Kaldar is in QC (that is, I'm trying to fill in as many of the gaps as possible before I roll him into play). Currently I am pushing him toward the 39, because sadly I'm familiar with them, and thus don't want a challenge (plus I don't believe there is any intent to have favors be available from the Gorbesh gods).

Unfortunately I believe you're right. In fact, I'll have to search the past posts to be sure, but I remember some GM posts to the effect that there are no, nor have there ever been any plans to introduce the Ten into the favor system. Makes being as devout a follower of Misiumos quite difficult, especially when not getting favors is pretty much out of the question.

I try have Jere play it off as best he can, including only getting favor orbs when there's absolutely nobody around to see him, and if there are he offers fairly loud prayers to Misiumos for forgiveness. It does however offer some nice RP opportunities when you get to disparage the 13 openly around paladins and clerics and such. Might get me killed every once in a while, but what's a death or two when it comes at the expense of a god (or a super self-righteous servant of said god) eh?

I know this is going to be met with disappointment, but I personally have no intention of adding a favor system for the Ten. To the best of my knowledge no one else does either.

That said, I am interested in the story behind the Ten and the Thirteen and their relationship, the efforts to convert the Kaldar and so forth and intend to address this point in The Lore.

I myself can't really say I'm disappointed, it's been stated numerous times that it simply wasn't going to happen and so it's just something I've learned to deal with. Besides, while I'd love to see altars to the Ten, there is a lot of other development I'd like to see beforehand, especially Kaldar-centric rather than the more Gorbesh-oriented Ten-worship. Tribal systems, maybe some other elders from the Exodus besides Trimbolt coming out of the woodwork to tell some stories about home, anything that gives Kaldar more of a place in the world rather than just an offshoot of the Gorbesh people.

Also have a couple questions as well, any chance you could talk to Dart about possibly adding some Kaldar-housing to the Gnome village? I know he's been super busy with all the new combat/magic rewrites but if/whenever he gets back to it I'd love to be able to live next to our little Albarian cousins. And not sure if it exists but if you know of a map of Albaria anywhere I'd love to take a look at it. I've got a pretty good idea of what it should look like in my head, but I imagine when I get a real look at the continent there will be quite a few differences.

If there is a map of Alberia out there I have not yet found it (Which is not to say there isn't one, I'm constantly finding new surprises in the documentation). If one of you has a map of Alberia for whatever reason, I'd love to see it.

Well, it's obviously not an "official" map or anything like that obviously, since I was asking about it in the first place, but I've periodically used my very limited computer artwork skills to make a rough mock-up of what I think it looks like based on available information. I'll send it along to you if you promise not to mock me too awful much for my artistic talent. Heh

I'm not disappointed in being unable to get Albarian-based favors in the least. If it ever happened, great, but it won't make or break my character.

The Kaldar I'm working with has been played as a former Gorbesh soldier who returned to his homeland, only to return to Elanthia within the past decade or so. He mixed in the with the Kaldar to coordinate his return. I'm unclear on the reverence or the focus of the Gorbesh as far as religion goes, so the religious aspect has mostly been ignored with the character. I would love to see a mix of what was behind the Gorbesh besides strictly militaristic ideals, but I would think that 75% plus should be in a new direction. I'm really glad that Kaldar are going to be developed, thank you!

1) Most people seem to want the old lore. My immediate reaction was that I'd like more modern lore. I suppose this comes from us having a very extensive timeline, and yet no real idea of what everybody's doing now that we're HERE. But I would certainly be happy with either.

2) My character worships the old gods and despises the 13, which she views as weak and manipulative. She's thus been favorless since day one (it's not as hard as you'd think). It has provided a ton of great RP opportunities -- including being mistaken (or not?) for a Necromancer, and general raging debates with Clerics. She doesn't particularly favor any one god over another, though others would say she has a favorite.

As for the reason, well. I just thought it was most appropriate for a Kaldar raised in her situation (born in Kermoria but exposed in childhood almost exclusively to her fervently Albarian mother). Also I thought it would be a fun challenge and RP choice.

>No Albarian favors.

I admit I am a tiny bit disappointed. If done well I think these could add a lot of flavor to the system and to Kaldar in general. However, I have no problem with things as they are and would absolutely hate to see favors rolled in in exactly the same way as the other systems in place now. If they were ever to be done, I'd want to see something interesting and different. Maybe you'd have to go toe-to-toe with Xosiurion after you die, Xin'Alaudas style. That would be fun. :D

From where I'm standing there's really only two acceptable long term options: Allow you guys to get favors from the Albarian Gods or put some lore out there about why you can't.

Having the Lore basically say you can, but the mechanics not support it is a problem.

And, no, I haven't reversed my stance on Albarian favors. Make of that what you will.

In all honesty I don't think it's immersion-breaking if we should be able to do something but can't for mechanics reasons.

Then again, if an easy way out was needed, I could always see something like how Albarian gods CAN grant favors, but it turns out the High Temple in Kermoria are all still a bunch of terrified jerks when it comes to outside Divinity. While they're more comfortable with Prydean and Rakash gods, they still hold a bit of a grudge toward Albarian divinity what with the whole Gorbesh War temple-razing thing, so any attempts to build "proper" shrines to Albarian gods results in some Very Bad Things happening to those who attempt to do so.

<<She's thus been favorless since day one

I really wish I had your courage when it came to that but to be quite honest but until recently I didn't really think it was much of an option with the chance to perma-walk. Now that that isn't really a possibility I may join you as the one of the spitefully favorless.

<<Having the Lore basically say you can, but the mechanics not support it is a problem.

As far as why Albarian gods can't grant favors I haven't ever seen where lore says one COULD even get favors from them. In fact, I always just assumed that being harder, more primal gods that they wouldn't grant another life to a Gorbesh (Kaldar/Gnome) who had failed them by dying. I've actually RP'd just that point on multiple occasions, that the Kermorian gods were weak for allowing their servants multiple chances at life, deserving or not. (Yes I know that with Jere having favors that makes him a hypocrite, see above perma-walking issue, I know it's only text but I'm fond of my text).

As I said I'd love to see favors from the Ten in-game, but it's really not a huge issue on my list of things I'd like to see for that Kaldar. If the GM's want to release lore as to why one can't get Albarian favors that's fine, if not I'll probably just continue along my 'weak Kermorian gods' line. After all it is quite a bit of fun to have another excuse to disparage gods to their most devout servants.

How about a future option for Albarian God totems.

This old Kaldar favors Meraud, of them all. Xosiurion comes in at a close second.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the albarian gods being all about the favors. They may "favor" a certain powerful warrior/leader/priest/whatever but if they up and get themselves ganked, they'll probably just swap to the next strong guy to come along.

Hanryu is a devout follower of the 13, as per some lore I wrote up for him about his family's women being priestesses of a sacred spring (Lemicus), him surviving a shipwreck, and his sister (cleric) riding him pretty hard about it all. I embrace the "new age" Kaldar deal/lore about following the 13 for both my kaldar characters.
