Are there any Rakash elders still alive from the raising of the barrier?

Unfortunatly we cannot answer that question with a deffinative yes or no. There were certainly Rakash Elders, or rather an Elder, that was mentioned in the Prydaen Lore that was written regarding the raising of the barrier. However after the barrier was raised, we have not been told what happened to him.

As for other Rakash Elders, when the Rakash race was introduced too the realms, it was mentioned that the Elders were "hidden." and that they would not be revealing themselves. This for the reason that the barrier will fall completly if all who created it died. Be it prudence or fear that caused them to do this, I am unable to tell you.

So there is your answer. They are alive, perhaps. Or they could be dead. We don't really know. One thing is for certain. Due to the fact we have no Elders that join us to share their knowledge, nor do we seem to have much written text, as our historical traditions were oral... we know very little about our past in Odcoru or the history of our race before then.

On a side note, it has been said in the past we are lucky to know what we do know, as when Grazhir shattered it was almost he end of our race. This combined with the way we were forced to flee eastwards, explains something as to the reasons behind this, even if it is frustrating.

Which leads me onto.... Moot! I can fully understand you have more questions. As will many Rakash players I am sure. If you look at the post below yours, we will be holding a moot this weekend. Any Rakash and their partner (Be they Rakash or not) is welcome to attend, as we'll have games.. stories.. and more.

Sorry... tell me again, what do you mean you had no time to get favours?

Of course if a GM wishes to correct me on any of this, please do! We're about ready for some Rakash Elders to make an appearance! pose

Far as anyone knows, every magician that was involved in constructing the Barrier and was still alive up to that point went out in a very unpleasant way when Lyras corrupted it. It's... not a verified fact that all the Rakash participants died, but the prospects aren't really good. By far the most likely outcome is that they died alone and in agony.

The probable (for what that's worth) option for survival would've been for an elder to have enough thanatological lore to parlay the necromantic corruption of his life force into a Descent, becoming a lich. Let's assume that's out of the question.

Another possibility is they may have known how to disentangle themselves from the Barrier and metaphysically ran for it. There's no evidence that anyone had this ability; the Prydaen certainly didn't. If the Rakash elders were holding back something like this, they have the blood of a lot of good cats on their hands.

All in all, it's best to hope they all died.

Thanks Armifer, interesting stuff. I'm curious, were the names of any of the Rakash Elders left at the barrier ever developed officially? In the Rakash introductory meeting (see log extract below) someone asked but they were told the Elder's names were not revealed for saftey.

Yssan quietly says, "The Barrier will fall only if all of the those involved in the casting perish."
Yssan quietly says, "And many have asked for the names of those involved..."
Rrowsh asks, "ahh, that is what i wondered, who were that casters? who should we guard?"
Yssan quietly says, "But we cannot divulge that...."
Felinda says, "We cannot risk that everyone might know them"
Yssan nods to Felinda.
Felinda says, "Some would wish them harm"
Auryn says, "You can trust though that they're safe now."

But there's a tree, of many, one,
A single field which I have look'd upon,
Both of them speak of something that is gone:
The pansy at my feet
Doth the same tale repeat:
Wither is fled the visionary gleam?
Where is it now, the glory and the dream?

I'll offer up one last variation on this theme. If it is possible in theory that the Elder could have untangled himself, then it seems even more possible that their Gods could have untangled them at the time of the corruption.

This was an option that the Three likely concidered. However, with the Prydaen view on reincarnation and the age of the persons involved, particularly Balam who was declining and near death anyways, it made more sense to Demrris to return the Prydaen Elders to the Wheel.

I will not presume to speak for the Rakash side of things and attempt anything definitive. However, given the time since the Barrier, anyone tied to it prior to its corruption is going to be quite old now and one would think it likely that if they still live they could be close to death by old age anyways.
