This is not a question of how to. This is a question of for what reason.

There is no doubt, according to game lore, that the Dragon Priests practiced a particularly barbaric form of this ritual when they did a dark sacrifice of a S'kra for whatever purpose - <I would venture either that s'kra betrayed the Priests in some way or committed some act that made him or her an enemy of D'Zree -- in which they forced said s'kra to eat their tail after cutting it off - and then of course killed him in a violent manner and burnt his corpse afterwards.

No, my question is not how or why the DragonPriests practice - but why the "normal" S'Kra authorities - head of the ru'at, or clan would conduct such a ritual.

In other words, what would a S'Kra have to do to "deserve" such a thing?

1. would the practice of necromancy, in and of itself deserve such a punishment.

-or-

2. would the acts of necromancy so committed have to have harmed a member of the s'kra mur people, or a significant number of s'kra mur people?

<i.e. would one act be sufficient grounds, or would they have to be a mass murderer... etc.

This question has come up as a suggestion of a certain person in the population in plat, and we're trying to come up with a criteria here as whether it would even be considered.

Needless to say, the other party involved has no desire to be smozhed. :-)

So any inkling you can give us as to the basis or "grounds" for such a thing would be of value to the lore. Either for the defense or for the prosecutions side.

Thank you.

Out of curiosity, did you make everyone stop trying to kill Lyras so you could go try to kill Book?

Considering the first smozhing, I would say betrayal of one's own Ru'at or People.

Rampant Necromancy is new in Elanthia(Thx Zamidren), so I'd venture to say that such things for Sraan are not well defined yet.

For a Ru'at, well, depends on who's ru'at you're in.

The more notable reasons for naming someone Smozh would be things like kin-slaying, which was of course the first reason but it would certainly be possible for a reputable leader to choose his or her own reasons. If King Arhhdan wanted to disgrace someone for defiling his name, he could certainly do that. As could the leader of a Sraan, or even the leader of one of the [S'Kra Mur] Rathan Houses. The important factor however is that it would never be done lightly.

As for the charges of Necromancy specifically, it would fall on whosever authority that particular S'Kra Mur fell under. There is no "S'Kra Mur nation" to which all members of the race belong. If -- and mind you, this is an if; purely hypothetical -- if Kind Arhhdan came out and proclaimed that all S'Kra Mur Necromancers were seen as Smozh and should be made such on sight, hey that's great. But if you're anything other than a citizen of Muspar'i, his word shouldn't mean diddly squat to you.
