Well, I finally decided that I had to do something about my senile raccoon companion. Kalika wasn't much help at first, but Dryzt finally went with me and he asked around until I figured out how to release my furry friend (had to let him jump down from my arms). It was a bit harder than I imagined and I spent awhile in the wilds afterwards scouting, but made my way back to the trail up to young ogres and ran into a wolf pack. I approached the wolf pack a couple of times but havn't had much luck.

Could someone tell me if I need to have milk in my hand or do something (like place milk on ground) or something special that is different from getting my first companion? As I understand it, I'll have to feed the baby milk, but can carve meat to feed it when it gets to be young. Maybe there is a discussion somewhere that will help me understand what to do?

It's only 15 Charisma - It's all I have had and still have and I was able to get my wolf at 35 a long time ago.

I got several of the 30 or 40 or whatever many wolves I went through with people in the room/in my group. (Yes, it took that many for me to give up and just only use the wolf to script AL.. I did that so many times while hunting it eventually turned into a young wolf one day, I was rather amazed, Animal Lore: 342 43.17% clear, funniest lore ever).

I did finally get another little furball for a companion and it looks like I'll have to be especially careful with my little friend based on some of the comments. My raccoon was my first and only but it may be too much to expect from a wolf from the sounds of it. Having a companion has been a great counterpoint to spice up interactions with critters and friends...and spending time alone learning the stuff it takes to advance. Makes being a Ranger worth all the effort it takes just to get that next rank.

Now the next thing is to find a suitable name...
