If at all possible can we get some cooling pouches for our meat to last longer for our wolves so we can take them more places? There doesnt seem to be too many area that we can find meat easily enough for our young wolves and since it takes foreeeeever to raise one it makes it hard to spend a lot of time with them awake. True we have a beseech but that doesnt preserve our meat very long so maybe a pouch that would hold maybe 3 pieces of meat would greatly help and I for one would want to keep my companion awake and with me. Its too easy to lose it as it is. Just a thought and suggestion.

I love that idea of a cooling pouch...and while we are on "accessories" so to speak, could we have a sling we could carry our baby raccoons and wolves in. IRL if I had a baby, I would want to shelter it in a sling sometimes...especially if I was running a trail or climbing or such...or in really really really cold weather.
Also, could we have individually colored masked wolves like the horses are? Be nice if each wolf raccoon, falcon whatever was unique instead of teh generic "you see a baby wolf".
Also, we could have a leather pattern that made a ball we could fill with beads, or corn or acorns or something to play with our babies.
And lastly, I loved it once when, I suspect a GM was watching me hunt in gargs, that after I killed the garg, my young wolf snarled and grabbed it and shook it while growling ferociously. Could we see that in random cases?
Thanks again for looking at the companions code and PLEASE do something with it this year. I will be happy to come by and break up old code pieces if you like : D

There is actually things that keep stuff cold. The Unlonchai buckets for Alchemy are supposed to do such as that. So it wouldn't be beyond precedence to have a container that kept food cold to keep it preserved.

Good idea and perhaps we could feed the wolves jerky? Would be nice to have a use for the jerky. I recall some of the meats have funny messaging.
If this game has 1 constant problem, I think it is making neat stuff for the game and then abandoning or not developing it further.

Just wondering about You and Wolves on 03/31/2010 10:59 AM CDT
I was in wandering around M'riss and got to thinking back to the day wolves were found for the first time.
I was the second or third person to actually get one.
Is there anyone around that actually still has their original Wolf? I still have mine and he is full grown.
I don't bring him out for an extended time because I don't want to lose him. It's sad when you can get attached to something like that.
Forgive the rambling, been wandering around the land toooo long and guess I beat my wolf to Senile. His name is "Puppy". Anyway, is there anyone who still has their first wolf?
Forever Senile

I had my raccoon for ages and ended up lossing her because i died once, never got a new one, though I did ended up getting a wolf. My wolf I've now had for over 2 years in game real life time, I have him to young and only use him at times for roleplay purposes or to get something to my wife in game, who is two provinces away. I really don't want to get him to a senile age because it's kinda sad to spend all that time training a companion only to see it go away after all that work.
I look for to the companion rewrite, to me it's not that they are completely useless, but the fact they are so easy to lose and raising one takes so much time....it seems a shame when you have to set them free.
No ranger stands alone.

Companions are not useless! Are friends useless? Don't answer that. I find my wolf a good friend, even if he just sits there and watches me die, and then sniffs me.
But wow, for those who do have their original wolf/coon, great big KUDOS! I'm so jealous. I have whole litters of coons and wolves all over Elanthis, except Muspari. Currently I'm on Lucky 9. If he dies, I'm changing the name. (Lucky was the first wolf I ever grew to senility and yeah, I cried for real, all the time walking from Ilithi to Crossing to turn him in. Sooooo sad! I heard Kalika breaks their necks. Even if true (which doubt) that would be a kindness sometimes.

Lost one raccoon because it didn't follow into the sea caves. Raised the only other to senility.
Lost one wolf to the Aesry stairs (magically poofed out of existence). Have had the only other for something like seven RL years. Full-grown now, hopefully it won't ever go senile because then I'd have to raise another one if I ever need to use the tracking function.

When my wolves reach the young age, i go to wolf clan and stop feeding them until they leave (hopefully back to their pack). It was actually quite sad the first few times but i (ab)use my wolves to train animal lore and young wolves are too much of a pain to keep.
Either way, the AL experience gained after 300 ranks isnt even worth the time anymore so i stopped calling my wolf.
My ranger is a terrible master and is really happy animals have no rights in DR.

>>I've never had a raccoon or wolf<<
I don't see the point in having one at all. I've had a warmage that had familiars and I hardly ever used one then, and the familiars were a LOT easier to handle and control.

<<...and young wolves are too much of a pain to keep.>>
You have got to be kidding! I find young, mature etc. wolves MUCH easier to keep than babies. Once I got a wolf to mature, it was a breeze. More stable to track, and more often to complete "gifting" folks.
But then I have only had 1 wolf reach that milestone so...
But to each their own. I keep hoping some day the GMs will find a use for animal lore. And after being totally stunned by the advice to train shield when once it was anathema, I would say, keep training the AL.
Zinaca and her wolf, Lucky 9 (I think)

I might have expressed it in the wrong way. I meant much of a pain to upkeep. Was talking about feeding them, to be more specific.
Wish we could freeze/dry/cure/smoke meat to make it last a lot longer. Even if these processes are time consuming, it would be great to be able to prepare food and stock up for a few weeks at a time.
I know something like this will not be done before the companion rewrites and maybe the mech split and i agree with that. Just leaving it as a suggestion for the future :D

We do have the beseech the wind to preserve. It only lasts an hour though. But it's better than nothing. I would also think we could use beseech the sun to dry too but so far, only for herbs and to make jerky, and popcorn.
