I'm not sure how this might work since i'm not a GM with knowledge of how area settings are configured. But allowing rangers to change a neutral area to a slightly wild, or a slightly wild area to a full wild area, would be a great ability at this point.
I know i do a lot of complaining about the world settings in general, but being a ranger is something I've come to love period. I do play other guilds wher environment means nothing. Bonus is only a minor part of the disaapointment.
When walking from Hib to the Ferry, and every single room inbetween is netural it becomes a bit frustrating, knowing that on this road my ranger doesn't feel at home when the room discriptions indicate untame environment. While walking from hib to boar clan it is only slightly more wild. Since ranger bonus drifts the impact becomes more problem matic for some rangers when it doesn't regenerate when we log out.
Example:
Ranger just submits to being in a neutral area since a vast majority of the game is neutral or slightly netural. Bonus finally drifts down near 0. They log out and back in and decide to go do some things in town. At times this is needed or desired by some. When leaving town they wish to scout trails only to find their bonus is below the minimum they need to run trails/beseech. So now they need to find a wild room that will help them recover bonus and stay there and try not to venture into netural/urban areas for awhile to just be able to learn a skill.
To me that is a bit restrictive, but the price of being a ranger. Yet when the environment of DR shares no real logical rules and regulations for how rooms are set, beyond the area creators idea of what the room should be. It creats the problem of most wilderness areas being neutral with reasoned through if people travel this area often then it is not really wilderness.
Truthfully I know redefining every room in DR classifcation as urban/nutral/wild would be difficult. Which is why i'm proposing the ability for a ranger to be able to change the environmental setting of a room even if it is for a short time through an ability/beseech/spell. To allow for a bit of flexability.

At the moment this is technically unfeasible but I hope that soon it will not be. I've been working on an update on how urban/rural is handled that should be beneficial to both Thieves and Rangers.

Ahh, I can only guess that this means that one day neutral areas won't bring down bonuses that are high, but rather have zero effect on the bonus?

Thanks for the reply. This was something I was trying to explain to a new ranger about bonus and how it is handled, and how to tell if the area is wild and neutral. Basically they tanked their bonus by hanging out in louts then running in and out of town, assuming being in louts would raise their bonus enough so that running to rats wouldn't hurt them. Pretty much ended up not being able to track for a few days.
