Unless I'm missing something, starting Debilitation training for a young Ranger is really rough (impossible). For reference, this is a Ranger I started recently in Plat, so the opportunity for classes aren't as abundant as Prime. The spell choice path I followed was:

1. Compost/Eagle Cry
2. Athleticism
4. Essence of Yew
6. Devitalize
10. Devolve

I tried picking up a Burden scroll, but as a new character I can't actually read the scroll to even invoke it. I throw scholarship training in with a crafting book whenever I get a chance, but at 24 scholarship it's not readable. I just turned 10th circle today and picked up Devolve and with 37 PM and 0 Debilitation I can't cast the spell (Currently lacking the skill to complete the pattern, your spell fails completely.). I can try and find someone to give me some debilitation lessons, but is it expected that by the 10th circle a Ranger still has no way to learn debilitation on their own? It's also unfortunate to have to pick up a second TM spell in order to get to what I thought was the only intro Debilitation spell.


Also I guess somewhat related to this, why does a new Ranger start with 0 Debilitation at 99%? Why isn't it just 1 rank?

I'll check into the starter EXP for the 99%. As far as training Debil, out of curiosity, are you able to full prep + cast Devolve and get any experience from it, or is it flat out nothing?

Thanks for looking into it. And yes, it's flat out no experience since the spell doesn't cast. I didn't know it was Arcana not Scholarship, my Arcana is actually higher at 34.

That might be an option.. but I question if someone would feasibly have 50 ranks in PM to cast it anyway at the circle they learn it. Thoughts?

Feasibly? I would say no even for a magic primary guild, let alone a magic tertiary. It is the easiest to cast Debilitation spell in the ranger spell book, requiring 20 ranks in debilitation. If you path straight for it, you can get it at 4th circle. As a ranger, it's probably about 12-13th circle until you highest survivals even start reaching 50, let alone primary magic.

I've reduced Break Branch to a basic debilitation spell.

This should largely resolve the issue.
