So I've noticed when I have bear strength running, I shake off stuns quite frequently. I get the following message:
You shake your head viciously from side to side, breaking free of the stun!
Is this a direct action of the spell or the result of having higher stamina/strength/concentration?

Specifically:

Sounds like a specific effect of Bear strength, unrelated to the str/stam buff.
Pants.

This is a direct effect of the spell. It is why the spell teaches the warding skill. I assume the higher you cast, the more often it will attempt to do this, but am not positive.
CS too, teaches all the same skills, but has the warding effect of balance recovery and boosting.

> I thought warding was specific to anti damage abilities like swan, and that those types of effects were augmentation.
I think augmentation is supposed to be restricted to stat/skill buffs, since otherwise it could quickly eat up the majority of spells. Warding in particular is fairly niche, so anytime there's a spell that could go either way, I suspect they'll give it to warding.

I think it's close to case by case basis per guild. If I understand the discussion correctly, there are quite a few spells that do something very similar for Empaths, that full under Aug, instead of warding.
TG, TG, GL, et al.

I guess the way I have always perceived it to be is that augmentation is buffs to stats and skills. In other words augmenting your general ability. Warding is the negation, or warding off of some effect. This could be stuns, imbalance, curses, certain spells, roars, ability to be targeted, etc.
I guess it's really up to the perspective of the creator, ultimately. But in general I view it like this:
Augmentation = buffing/enhancing
Warding = prevention/resisting/negating
Going back to BES, i never understood why it was teaching warding until i saw the stun shake-off. I am assuming this effect comes at the price of some of its potency though. The old version was one off the biggest stat enhancers around. The new version i feel isn't quite as dramatic of a difference. I would love it off this effect became more consistent with its power. So far it's been hard to tell.
