if your scouting for trailmarkers and your gettin the "huh?" then yer doin it right. so either A: ya havent looked in the right places yet. or B: ya dont have the skills to find the ones you have been lookin in the right places for.
the "huh?" kinda got me at first too, since it usually denotes the game has no clue what yer talkin about.
if ya need any help searchin for trails feel free ta grab me in game, im usually around the crossin guild a few times a day.

try to find the most wilderness type of place you can hunt in without getting slaughtered, and go hunt, go swimming in wildernessy type places, go climb in wilderness type places, go forage in wilderness type places. in other words, go out in da woods someplace rangerly and do rangerly type things.

In other words, get out of town. Time will take care of the rest.

There's a really good out of town hunting area for rats. It's neutral i believe, so get your bonus back first, like the others said, forage outside crossing or something.
Then head out the NE gate, a few rooms till you see the "winding trail"
there's a farmhouse there, with black rats in it. Silverfish are occasional, so keep your eyes open, but I have hunted my ranger through his first 20 ranks twice now *walked him once*. After that, there're boars and hogs outside the farmhouse, headed north.
That's not the only place to hunt low ranks, but it's the easiest to direct you to. Find me in game and I can go with you to some others in the area.

Tracking/scouting question on 09/15/2003 10:20 AM CDT
I've a brand new ranger, trying to learn scouting.
I'm failing constantly, and am wondering if anyone knows if any of the stats plays a role. I've some TDPs I have not spent yet and if pumping them into an area would help, then I'd like to give that a try.
Thank you in advance.
Though it was stationary and unintelligent, our prey remained ellusive . . .

I had my account closed for about 6-8 months and when I returned to the lands, I found scouting had undertaken some changes.
When I left, I was able to track players and creatures, but upon my return, I failed every time. So I'm assuming that you need better skill now to do either of those. Your best bet is to go to Arthe Dale and track the kitten or scarecrow. I went from 30 to 50 ranks in about 5 days.
