Hey all. Could someone tell me how much scouting is needed to use the trailmarkers in the Haven area? I was told two of them could be used with 35 in scouting. So being as tracking is messed up around haven I went all the way to arthe trained upto 35 and returned to Haven.

It seems I can find a trailmarker in the room, I don't get the huh? message instead it says;

> scout trail

You notice some kind of trailmarker hidden within the terrain.

But when I type go trail it says I could not find what you were referring to.

So can I use this trail, or do I have to go mindlessly track the scarecrow, lad, and kitten for another 15 ranks?

Thanks.

well, scout trailmarker, look trailmarker (you should see a symbol for what it is for) and go trailmarker.

Might be a trail something else in the room? and check for typos...otherwise, not sure.

It means you're wicked close, but not quite there yet. Try again after you've gotten a rank or two, or even just improved your bonus, and you should be good to go. I'm sure the Halfling lad will miss your company.

Thanks Jalika I've tried look examine search and every other one I could think of. No luck.

I must be as Silv said, right on the bubble. Just not quite there yet. I have a good bonus, should be really good. Apparently not good enough.

I think I gotta head south again and get a couple more ranks. <grumble>

Thanks guys.

35 is only an estimate as well. Depending on how good your perception is it may be a bit more or a bit less before 35 that you can find the trail. It does sound like you're very close, and working a bit more on perception may be enough and possibly easier than training scouting more.

Yep, you're close, that's why the messaging said "some kind of trailmarker". When you actually find it, you'll see messaging saying what the trailmarker was placed/carved/attached/etc on/to. And you'll be able to look at it to see the marker itself and know where the trail leads, if you understand the symbology of the markers.

Good luck, you're almost there.

Well, I think Tsarenzi nailed it. I was thinking perception as well. When I started looking for the trail, I only had 29 in perception (haven't been foraging much). So I went back to track the lad and got up to 37 in scouting and 30 in perception, went back to haven and still got the same message.

I guess I can either stay up north and forage to get my perception going, or just head back to arthe. If I do that though I'm just gonna crank out 13 more ranks of scouting to get 50 then more trails will open up anyways.

Thanks again all.

You know, training with my baby Ranger in the Arthe Garden I seem to recall it not being bonus positive but rather neutral. Also, the room where you catch the ferry on the south side is bonus negative. Are you going right from Arthe to the Haven trails? I know from my experiences of being on the cusp of being able to use scout area that scouting is one of the more fickle skills when it comes to its relationship with our bonus.

I recall Pep-tog saying he could get the trails with 35 in scouting, so maybe hunt and skin and forage among other Rangerly things for a while before trying again.

Yep, went straight from Arthe area to the trail out the east gate of haven. Both times the ferry was there within a minute of my arrival, so I don't think that would effect my bonus too much. As far as the garden, I don't know whether it's neutral or not. I got my first 20 ranks there, then on my way to track some more I noticed the lad outside of Arthe. If you track the lad all rooms with the exception of one are neutral, the one is bonus positive. So I tracked him up to 37, which is where Im at now.

Did pep happen to mention his perception when he ran them at 35 ranks of scouting? I really think thats my issue now, though it may be bonus related. I have a good bonus, but Im sure it could be better.

Bonus intact, I was able to do trails at 35 in scouting, but had a bit over 50 in perception at the time. Would still get an occasional (not very often) miss on scouting for them, but if I tried once or twice more, would be able to see them.

A young ranger I took out not long ago to show them trails was able to find them at 37 (not sure on his perception, didn't ask, but his bonus should have been fine at the time), but took him like 10 searches before he would find the trail once...

Still not able to find those Haven trails, bonus intact. I am over in plat but that doesn't matter, will report when I can find them.

Well.

I'd suggest work your perception more than scouting. I'm at 40 in tracking and 32 perception now. Still can't access the trail. I can find the trailmarker, but that's it.

And my bonus is well intact.

I work perception as well as can be expected over here, my character doesn't do the juggling thing as he is no entertainer, though he does have a certain friend who enjoys helping him train perception.

Perhaps a clear vision rune would help with your perception. Of course, I don't know what skill you need anymore to activate a rune. Wolfscent would help but you probably have other spells already while WS is better for a little later.

Well for anyone who tracks this kind of info, at 42 scouting and 36 perception. I Still can't go trail or discern the marker. Bonus well intact.

Are the jugglies on aesry still the easiest to come by? I think I need to get a set.

The rune would work probably, but you only get a few uses from them correct?

Pep-tog's perception is higher than his scouting. Currently, my perception is 55 and scouting is 50. I need to get back home to check the logs on my computer to see what it was when I found the trail and could run it. Until about 37-39 I had trouble finding the trailmarker every time.
You can scout the trail more than once. I think your bonus was more affected than you think. Since I have more than 100 combined perception/scouting, I can tell you that just the ride from south to north to haven can mess you up enough to hinder you. The beauty of the haven trail (the one going to goblins) it's short and you can lock pretty quick. Might want to see if a ranger can put a good cast of WS on you, that will help you get over the hump. Clear vision is also very good too.
The easiest jugglies are found on the amusement pier from the clown, 1 stone.
If I remember correctly, Pep-tog had 35 scouting and about 40 perception.

kttn, are you able to "go trail" and discern the trailmarker? I can find the trailmarker, I just can't go trail or make it out.

Pep, you may be right. But if thats the case our bonus is far larger than I ever thought. My bonus is and always has been in the positive. I assume it could be better, and maybe that is the problem.

But if you were running it with 35 in scouting and 40 perception (and I believe you) I'm led to believe my bigger issue is perception.

Thanks again guys. I'll be running them tonight regardless of the issue.

Yep I can run the trail, I see signs alot, then I get the trailmarker on whatever it is on..then I look trailm and than go trailm.

I think it may be the perception holding you back.

I couldn't run the one from the east gate to the goblins, which seems the easiest, with 34 scouting, but I could with 35. Perception didn't rank either.

Hey Gonif, you should be able to run all four of the "easy" trails in the Haven area at 35 in scouting.

I couldn with 42. Took me till I got 38 in perception. But now I can run them all.

I'm thinking 35 scouting and 38 perception will at least access the "easiest" one, if not all four.
