OK... thanks for all the replies on the last post I made... didn't end up going down to shard after all cuz I forgot about the kronar-dokora conversion factor and didn't have enough anyways. I do have a new question regarding arranging, though. Does anyone know about when I can expect to be able to arrange critters, maybe starting with rats? I know I can't do it now with 40 skinning and 9 prep HOL. I know my bonus isn't terrible, but I'm sure its not all that great either. I'm guessing 50, like scouting the trails, but not 100% sure. Just curious as to what I gotta work skinning up to in order to arrange.

Arranging is at 100 ranks of skinning.

You can arrange sooner with a nice cast of HOL. I would see if you can get someone with lots of magic skills to see if they can get you a really good HOL cast and you might be able to arrange. You get into the mid 60's in skinning and around 30 mana will let you arrange.

Unfortunately you can't arrange anything till ~100 in skinning, even if that arranged critter would be trivial for you to skin.. I started being able to arrange at 60 skinning with ~25 prep HOL, I think it may depend on agility though as some people seem to be able to arrange earlier / with less of an HOL than others. I still think it's pretty odd that I would barely have enough skill to arrange a critter, then be able to almost every time get a perfect skin using a spear.

With a capped cast of HOL, I think any ranger will be able to arrange.

This is dependant on if the novice bonus was throwing things off, but a ranger with 1 on skinning arranged a hog and perfectly pulled the hoof.

Wow! heh... thanks for the quick response! Guess I won't be doin any of that any time soon then :D Now... next question... are all critters arrangable at 100 or do they have different skinning reqs? I only ask cuz the messaging says you aren't skilled enough to arrange that creature or something. Anyways, thanks again fo the response!

You can arrange any creature at 100 (or less with HOL, as has been mentioned)...just might not be able to skin it once youv'e done that.

All critters have a base skinning requirement. Arranging doesn't make it easier to skin, it makes it harder. So what you might be able to skin easily, arranging may make it too hard or hard enough you don't cap it.

For instance, the capped regular skinning message is skillfully peel. When you see that all the time except for the occasional mistake, you know you are able to skin that critter. Arranging that critter may cause you to get all sorts of ranges in the arranging messaging, from messed it up to the "trophy". There have been times even with arranging I still get the skillful peel messaging. (not the trophy messaging, by the way)

Skin everything, scrape all you can, skinning gets hard to do around 80 ranks or so because nothing you can hunt teaches well unless you scrape it.

Throwing another pitch out...

I can arrange with a 20 HOL cast, though I have not yet tried anything harder than bloodwolves. My skinning is 68, agility 20.

Good luck!

So, with arranging is it possible to learn skinning from actually skinning the creatuere? Maybe im hunting the wrong things right now, but the only way my skinning moves about learning is with a bundle full of hide or skins.

For ranks under 100, most of your learning will come from scraping...skinning you need to skin very quickly. I have ML skinning once or twice skinning, and that was in a swarm of blood wolves when I was the designated skinner while three others just killed them at my feet.

If you can arrange, you can arrange anything. You just cant SKIN them. You'll end up butchering a lot of skins with only 100 in skinning. My advice would be to get HOL early and an cambrinth item. Then charge up the cambrinth as full as you can, prep HOL at 5 and focus on the cambrinth. This will give you the maximum of mana that you can put in HOL. The more mana you put in HOL the better your chances of skinning arranged creatures. Also kneeling and using an undamaged skinning knife helps, as does no injuries.

KayhLa, if you're arranging and skinning the right creature just skinning teaches well. For instance if I go in leucros with a good HOL up, arrange everything I usually come out with my skinning ~perplexed. (And yes I have my arranging Hotkeyed.)

Also, I have heard and it seems to hold for me is that if your burden is smaller, you skin better.

Burden and fatigue are two huge huge factors in skinning.
