What kind of stats should a character have before taking on Snowbeasts?

I think my character needs a bit more seasoning.

The norther part of the gash hunting grounds swarmed less in my experience, so you can start there, you might even find one on the STR right near the gondola platform to try things out on. If you are the only person in the grounds (often the case) you will usually be able to find 1 or 2 isolated beasts to dance with, just take out any others that wander in. Once you are ready for a stready stream (bout 10-15 more ranks, depending on boosters and knowledge of mechanics) head closer to the cave at the SE corner of the grounds. The altar room is a safe room, with great life mana. Do gweth if you are going to be hunting there, moons willing (or even not) someone in ilithi will probably come and get you if you introduce yourself.

Ya they tend to swarm more at night, than during the day. Probly cuz they're like Hanryu, they don't like the sunlight.
