Ok, gotta question fer ya rangers out there. How much skinning does one need to get stingers from westies? Someone mentioned that discipline helps? What all goes into the equation that helps you get a good skin? I have 144 skinning, and 30 discipline. But not having any luck getting any stingers? Anyone have any advice? thanks in advance. Oh, this is also for a non ranger to skin. So...I don't have that wilderness bonus or spell thing for HoL. And if I have a ranger cast it on me, how long will it last? Thanks again.

I do not know skill requirements, but I was under the assumption Agility was the assisting statistic, being that it is hand/eye coordination.

Correct, agility is the main stat factored into skinning calcs. I also believe discipline plays a minor role.
Dalkin, what kinda westies are you talking about? There are a few varieties... the flex ones on M'riss, the tiered ones in the GOS area... mebbe a couple others I'm forgetting. The ones outside the temple in GOS are easier than the ones inside, I believe. Using a skinning knife/more balanced blade is supposed to help, and kneeling before you skin (kneel <critter>, not just general kneel) will also help.

This is smooth. Super smooth. If pudding could doodie, it wouldn't come out this smooth.

The ones at the GOS. Not in the temple, but the ones outside the temple. Yeah, using a skinning knife, keeling west, and had a ranger cast HoL on me. With 144 skinning, 33 agility, 30 discipline, I'm not gettin them at all. So. No idea. I'm gonna raise agility to 35 and discipline to 32 next time I Circle, just to see if that helps. But right now. Nothing's working. Go figure.

Discipline is the main statistic in determining whether you can peel the skin or not from something above your abilities.
I did extensive testing with figurines on that before the first KK to see what to pump. (And all the results showed disc, and I won first place so I don't have any reason to doubt it).
Also I've moved agility 20 points since the last time I touched disc and haven't noticed any drastic skinning increase due to my agl being that high.

sorry, deleted the last post I just made. Came across something else thats interesting. So hopefully a GM is reading or can clarify something.
Some people are saying agility helps skinning, others are saying discipline. Since HoL gives a boost to discipline. Which now makes no sense whatso ever. If in game you type either agility or type the word discipline you'll get what each of them do. So now I'm really confused. Maybe a GM can give some insight into this?
>discipline
Your base Discipline is thirty(30).
It will cost you 75 TDPs to raise your Discipline from 30 to 31.
>>Discipline helps you resist fear effects, improves the size of your experience pools, and is used in various magical 'spell versus statistic' contests (particularly 'spell versus will' contests), among other things.
Thats what is says about Discipline.
>agility
Your base Agility is thirty-three(33).
It will cost you 115 TDPs to raise your Agility from 33 to 34.
>>Agility helps you hit with weapons and targeted spells, improves manual tasks such as skinning or disarming, and is used in magical 'spell versus agility' contests, among other things.
So if HoL gives a boost to Discipline to help skinning, I'm saying thats wrong. Maybe a boost to agility, but not discipline. So um. Can a GM clarify this?

What makes you think HOL gives a stat boost? AFAIK it's a straight boost to skinning skill, stats are not involved in the spell at all. I didn't see anyone claim HOL boosted disc or agil anywhere:
>>Harome: I was under the assumption Agility was the assisting statistic, being that it is hand/eye coordination.
>>Me: agility is the main stat factored into skinning calcs. I also believe discipline plays a minor role.
>>Teeklin: Discipline is the main statistic in determining whether you can peel the skin or not from something above your abilities.
In this thread, we were stating some of the stats you could raise to improve your ability to skin things, not what is boosted by HOL.

Eeeeeenteresting. Care to do some tests? Find someone on the brink of an RT reduction or just needs a point or so of agil to do the next origami pattern and cast it on them? I'm skeptical, if only because we already have a spell that specifically boosts agil, even if hardly anyone uses it.

<<The fact that it helps you skin better, open boxes better, and do things that agility helps with better.>>
So what you are saying is that HOL helps you in popping boxes? Is there any research on that or is that just your gut feeling?
