Ok I'll beseech the players for knowledge on this one. What would you guys say is the hardest to skin, ranger friendly hunting area/critter around 175-250 ranks in combats and skinning? prime weapon is at 231, skinning at 235, been in blight ogres and red leucros mostly and ogres seem to work skinning better just because they gen so much better (so long as you're in the swarm room). so far my best method for training skinning has been to go to ogres, arrange every kill w/out HOL, and succeed about 1/3 of the time. i fill a bundle, go scrape and sell and come back. when i leave ogres i'm usually around muddled, which is the first time hitting muddled in combat in a looooong time, after scraping i'm usually at perplexed or better, so keepin it goin from that point isn't bad, except the arrange part with mutiple critters. so, is there a critter out there that will lock skinning from combat alone? I've yet to find it, but i'm all ears.

The area is entirely frustrating, but I'm out on Ratha for RP reasons, and decided to try la'heke. Arrange/skin with bastie and lock skinning... I locked skinning! I almost fell out of my chair. I might have been on a wall rank but it was crazy. Some decks spawn more fishsticks than others and you can't use the specific attack commands because you fall over. If you spam attack (not slice, chop, draw, etc, just attack attack attack) you don't fall. Of course you have to be on ratha, and if the gweths weren't bad enough the whole island is practically anti-ranger, but there ya go.

Ding ding ding. Amazing how that works. Thrash bonus learn skinning.
My personal experience agree's with blight ogres nightime barghest nightstalker unyns young gryphons. ideal is to find something that swarms you kill easily. I can never give up that weapon exp however.

With 25 int and 229 skinning, i can get to the perplexed/bewildered stage after two cycles of capped HOL in black leucros. Add to that scraping the hides and skinning is locked when I go and sell the bundles. This is haflway through the learning cycle. I get perfect hides often, but fail sometimes as well. Not oonly do I learn skinning, but I make pretty good coin from all the hides and sacs I skin perfectly. I learn more skinning from red leucros though. With blight ogres, I'm at about muddled after a cycle of capped HOL, getting perfect skins more often than not. As far as hulking barghests, I get to around muddled after a cycle of capped HOL and get perfect eyes more often than not. This is using a knife to skin btw. I don't know how much int you have, but with the right amount of mana on you HOL and using something bigger than a knife, you might be able to lock skinning in these places. I always hunt crits I can skin with capped HOL to make coin. I love shopping so it helps support my habit, chuckle.

I still find this topic interesting at times. Or not so much the topic, but the complaints on locking skinning. For some reason, I don't ever recall it being all that terrible for me. I'm not saying it's as easy to do as magic or something, but I lock skinning on a regular basis. Post walls are tough, but they're tough for any skill because they drain so fast. Even at my skinning now, I'm still able to lock it while hunting. Not saying I don't think it needs some work. Just saying I don't feel I have as much problem as I hear others seem to.

I can get skinning moving really good too.. just takes cycling through 5 or 6 weapons. And it being super swarmie. Which is silly to take that long to get it to lock when I can lock 6 weapons in the same time. I can lock hiding 200 ranks higher, stalk 100 ranks higher, a lot quicker than that, by the time I lock just one bow. shrug

How much Skinning Van and what are you hunting? I have 350's and Im currently hunting polos while falk has mid 400's in skinning. We both have issues locking skinning in Polos. This is killing one every 40 seconds to a minute. I arrange using a dao (light edge weapon) and i believe he skins his with a HE. We both cast HOL at a level were we barely succeed and still nothing.
It's pretty frustrating.

How you expect to run with the wolves come night when you spend all day sportin' with puppies?
You might as well pay attention since your behind can't afford free speech
I'm like a pee stained mattress, don't sleep on me!

Thats funny, I don't remember having a hard time there either. Skinning is mid 500's by the way. So I was probably at about where you guys are when I hunted those. They did good for my skinning for quite a while. Malchata are starting to get tough to lock in. Takes a long session of swarms to get there. However, boars, goblins, and apes work wonders for me. I don't know, maybe it's just my perspective or level of tolerance.
