parry locking faster than evasion on 12/19/2007 05:28 PM CST

Ever since I came back to Dragonrealms a few weeks ago, whenever I hunt something that's within my reach my parry reaches mindlocked status much faster than my evasion, which kind of annoys me. I don't remember this ever happening before I left last time, and my parry's about to surpass my evasion. I guess that isn't particularly terrible, but I always preferred evasion, for all kinds of reasons that all of you probably know.

I figured it might be the critters I was fighting, which was recently sand sprites. I was around 93 evasion/88 parry when I started there (working on my multi, mainly) and parry would lock pretty quickly with several on me, while evasion never got past thoughtful. I thought that was the rank difference but now they're both at 95, and the same thing is happening. A single snowbeast will lock parry pretty quickly and eventually do the same to evasion but it takes much longer.

Anyone know what I can do to get evasion moving again?

For whatever value this is:
Strength : 24 Reflex : 21
Agility : 20 Charisma : 12
Discipline : 16 Wisdom : 20
Intelligence : 21 Stamina : 19

Leather Armor: 97 44% very muddled
Parry Ability: 95 19% bewildering
Evasion: 95 49% very muddled

I forgot to mention something I'm sure is important, my stance..

You are currently using 100% of your evasion skill.
You are currently using 81% of your weapon parry skill.
You are currently using 0% of your shield block skill.
You are attacking with 100% of your offensive skill.

It sounds like you're doing everything right. You might have some lingering hinderance from your armor which would hurt a little bit. Try hunting with SOP up to see if you learn better. Also, you didn't mention shield. I'd recommend picking that up, it comes in handy.

Also, you're nearing the cap on snowbeasts, you might want to try something harder. Silver leucros on Ratha are nice at that skill range.

Agreed. If you parry too much, cast SOP, otherwise you may have to step down on the creature ladder if your armor hindrance is still affecting you. Your parry will generally lock faster than evasion if you are parrying regularly. To lock evasion more quickly, you'll need to dodge, but obviously you do not want to be fighting something too easy or it will not move much.

For what it's worth, it's been my experience that both shield and parry have a habit of locking well after evasion stops training at all, for example, vines an creepers in theren will stop moving your evasion at all past 130-140 where as your parry will continue training past that point.

You should also keep in mind that evasion is a primary where as parry is secondary, evasion is going to drain alot faster so it'll SEEM like it's taking alot longer to mind lock, when it's really just draining to fast to get there. Should also note your wall status, if my math is right, 96 is a wall, so keep that in mind as well.

All in all, i'd suggest stepping up a little bit, it sounds like your fighting things on the edge of the evasion scale, try blood wolves, vines and creepers (great for multi as well), maybe even leucs or small peccs (definately not alone just yet, though) i'm willing to bet that's alot of your problems!

The experience pool for secondary skills is smaller than for primary skills, so it is natural that parry will mind lock faster.
