Do these auto update as people train or do they have to go back and tap them? What is the criteria for each register?

You have to retap them.
For example, the Crossing one. When I came back from my nap, I tapped and couldn't get on it. I'm now slot 20th after a couple months of training survivals (mostly because of swim the 80 ranks of swim and however much climb I think). The 8 circles might have helped too not a clue.
Langenfirth is bows - all 5 bows count. Not sure if anything else is included.
Aesry is stealth related - Hide, stalk, and perc definitely count. Not sure if steal or anything else does (I'll know when I go out and tap it again, well over 100 ranks of steal since I last tapped).
Shard includes Animal Lore and Forage, not sure what else.
No idea what that P5 one uses.

If you mean the boar clan register, I last tapped it about 2-3 weeks ago. I have only been two boar clan or any part of PV twice, and both times was in the last two months to the ranger guild. When I last tapped it, I was 12th, now I am 16th according to the post, so others have tapped it recently too.
