Figured this question belonged here, move me if I'm wrong. I read somewhere (think it was the wolf den web site) that the type of wood you use for fletching arrows doesn't matter, long as your skills fit with it enough to keep from ruining the arrow during cration. Is this correct or no?

Every wood only has so many ranks that can be put into it. You know you've hit a wood's cap if you gain 20 ranks, and the value of the arrow/bow doesn't go up anymore.
http://www.olwydd.org/systems/fletching/caps.php
This tends to apply for both arrows and Bows.
The monetary value is directly proportional to the ranks you have, using step function, such that the function steps up ever 20 ranks. So, 280 and 299 yield the same arrows/bows, but 300 yields a step up
So I asked this God a question
and by way of firm reply,
He said: "I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays".

ahhh, I think I get it. In layman's terms, with my lonbow skill at 74 ranks, I should be capping out arrows using pine sticks and should be using maple sticks instead correct? Accept of course my mech. lore should factor in there somewhere too(66). Sorry if I sound dense, haven't fletched in a looong time and still trying to understand the system and which woods I should look at when I make my arrows.

Yeah that's correct. You might also try some of the newer woods that are foragble now. (Apple and cherry I think?) They might be carvable at your mech ranks without to much of a failure rate. I dont know as I was above their cap when they were released.

As I understand it, the quality of the finished arrows depends only on the arrowhead used and your bow skill. The wood used to make it only determines the maximum quality. Your mech lore skill only determines whether you're able to fully finish an arrow without screwing it up (which essentially ruins it).
So yes, you should be using maple or spruce until you hit 80 ranks, at which point you should move up to birch, so long as you can successfully fletch the arrows with your mech lore skill.

Yes you are! Sssh, don't tell the Barbs!
But seriously, I thought Paklin and Ssra were working on Fletching 2. I know Paklin's got the new promotion (congrats!) and has been busy with P5, but I hope the Ranger team still has their hand in the fletching pot. ;)
