The ones in the task system aren't actually functional. I know Arai got something altered into a chainmail bikini, but I don't think that really counts.

PS - Arai plz come back.

k, one night when doing a class assignment I found both meaningless and stupid, I began to doodle and came up with this very bad plagerism of Shakespear:

to believe, or not to believe, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to mindlessly accept
the slings and arrows of meaningless fortune,
or to assert a belief against the monotonous sea of apathy
and by opposing end it. To die -- to sleep,
No more; and by a sleep to say we resign our selves to insipidity,
The heart-numbness and the thousand natural small deaths of self
That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;

I ran into Gordon Lightfoot once in Vegas. He was walking by a poster of himself, and...that is one scary man. He and James Taylor are tied in my mind for most scary folk singers, with a slight edge to Taylor. He's just got that "I'm smiling, and I seem really calm, but I could totally stick a shiv in your neck" kind of look to him.

Couple of songs and other things sort of merging,

The freedom speech from Braveheart

The last scene in Braveheart where he yells Freedom

Scenes from 300

The theme 'we're not going to take it'

You get the idea. Interesting sound track going on in the back of my head, a few others merged in there.

<<The freedom speech from Braveheart>>

<<The last scene in Braveheart where he yells Freedom>>

mentioned this before, but this speech, and the Aragorn speech at the end of Return of the King in front of the Mordor gates, and many many many other "rally the troops" speeches in literature, film, and real life were ALL derived from this effort by Shakespeare (if you like the braveheart speech you should know what inspired it):

This speech also immortalizes the turn-of-prase "We band of brothers"

Lastly, the final lines always get me all excited:
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Setting the scene:
The English have invaded France, led by King Henry V. When they get there, they realize that they are outnumbered 5-to-1, thus should get slaughtered. Ultimately they are victorious and cleaned the French's clocks. Further, they lost almost no men at all - except all the children that served as squires were murdered behind the lines (a deft device for vilifying french soldiers for an english audience that attended Shakespeare's performances). Lastly, this is based on a true event.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-yZNMWFqvM
(the speech starts moments after this youtube begins...when Henry (kenneth Branagh) appears.

Its SUCH a great speech...

"Henry V" - William Shakespeare

What's he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

The duck said "I'll pass."
Then he waddled away

ok ok since you're all dying to know how the battle of agincourt (fought upon st crispin's day) turns out, here is the final tally:

10,000 frenchmen dead, with tons and tons of nobles and knights slain.

29 englishmen dead (only 2 or 3 nobles)

BTW did you spot a 12 year old christian bale in the last scene? Well, he's dead in this scene. Branagh carries him and drops him in a cart with the other corpses.

I also think its hilarious that this youtube has french subtitles. what frenchman would want to watch this play?

It means having a different kind of opinion on your mother.

My two favorite Satchmo (Louis Armstrong) tunes:

They Can't Take That Away From Me
with Ella Fitzgerald - they both sing. Listen for Satchmo's subtle variation/interpretation of the original melody which is covered in the first verse. Then listen to Ella's genius after his solo.

Two of my favorite "broken heart" songs:

First one was in my head. Second one, by Shellac, is classic. But it's important to understand its about what CAN go through our heads (not rl) when we "feel" really, really hurt.

I Want You - Elvis Costello
*scroll to 00:50 seconds. The beginning is stupid IMO. The rest of it has killed me before. I've always used it to torture myself when relationships didnt work out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knTvHRz_qnU

Prayer to God - Shellac
*um this is a different kind of song. this is the anger of losing someone to someone else and PART what CAN go through our head. To me, this song is art - and its important in the annals of punk. Happily im just remembering this song. Nothing going on in my life that would put me through this. Err...enjoy?
