Never played a commoner before, and am having trouble foraging. I've got an amazing 6 ranks and can't seem to figure out how to get it to move. Can't collect yet (well I can, just collect a whole lot of nothing) and cannot get past thoughtful.
Any ideas as to what to forage? Timing? Anything would be helpful.
Thanks!
F.

Well, to start, I would recommend sticks (outside the NE gate of Crossing is a good spot) and filling a backpack with them to give to Mags (about 5-6 gold, a nice starting nest egg for a new character not being twinked). That should get you to 10+ ranks, along with a possible "Too many items" warning or two. ;)
After that, you can probably forage up grass in the same location, and then braid it to get mech and appraisal for a few ranks.

Strangely, I would forage a log, branch, twig, stick, and leaf, actually only getting a stick and leaf. This would teach me quite well. I am no pro at foraging, but that is what I am doing and it seems to work.

Got instructions up until about 13 ranks. I paid for 18 points of intelligence, which I wonder if i'll regret one day, but it makes learning through lessons allright.
After that, just outside northeast gate, foraging either logs or limbs, and splashing them in the bucket. Works wonders for me, but takes a LONG time, it's not like climbing, you can't forage 4 or 5 things and be bewildered, it takes a while to work, but it does.
Foraging: 28 40.70% clear
And logs still work.

Err, yeah. I wasn't expecting it to be super duper fast learning. 140 sticks foraged last night. Result? Pondering.
I'm wondering is there a certain way to time it to move things along better? Am I going too slow? Too fast? I've tried various things but it all comes out the same way.
Thanks!

A lil late on this, but I recently went back to foraging and have had no trouble learning it. My suggestion to you is to work on your perception for the time being, once that gets to a decent 50+ rank, the list of things you can find will be large enough that you can actually learn from foraging by running up and down the list while occasionally collecting a thing or two.
Just my thoughts,

Perception isn't the easiest thing in the world to learn in Plat. Bean bags are almost too heavy to use..I'll figure it out - even if it takes forever.
Thanks for all the advice!

Foraging and disarming train perception. About 40 ranks and beanbags become a viable training option (at least for rangers, but my agility is kinda low too..) Other than that...a certain skill also trains it realll well. If you don't mind being a bit OOC about it. Find someone to meet you in a place behind a tavern. It's crowded there.
