>>You begin to look forward to those TDPs, but also to the freedom gained from being able to sit and listen to a class or forage or fish or do whatever you want without 'Well guildleaderX said I need 2 more ranks in shield and 2 in my weapon and 3 in primary magic and 4 in teach before I can circle' running through your mind.

For my dedicated commoners, that's the OOC reason. For the IC reason, they've had trouble in the past and don't want guild ties that can be used to track them down. Certainly a good swim or a good session of rock-climbing is a lot more enjoyable if you're doing it because you want to instead of because some silly guildleader says you 'have' to.

You have no field experience in any of your skills!

You should seek out a guild and join it. The guild you join will give you some skills to start you out.

I agree. It seems to me that after a Commoner has attained a certain ammount of total experience the messaging about how one should join a guild should disappear. After all, while a true novice might find the advice useful, anyone else would simply find it annoying- or down-right insulting or depressing.

You can always just squelch that "join a guild" line.

At least, that's what I do for my commoner-type characters.

But you know what burns me even more? (And good RP, Ryeka, my commoners tended to be very young, below the age of adulthood where one should be making a life-long commitment to a guild, so it made sense not to join them)

Every time I forget what part of a combo swing I made, either due to scrolling or distractions or whatever, so I just go ahead and make a.......

>attack

While the ATTACK command will cause you to gain balance and do damage, it is recommended that you seek advice for more advanced combat commands to improve your ability to fight.

Sources of such advice include other players, the message boards, the Help pages of the website, and the in-game HELP COMBAT command.

And yes, that's four lines of GLOWING NEON YELLOW TEXT, with TWO BLANK LINES before and after it. That's half a page of scroll right there. I find it kind of stupid too. Help pages of the website? yeah right, like those have been updated since the late 80s. And other players? Okay, like you won't be thumped for being OOC if you ask what verb to use to swing your weapon (while the high leveled gweth idiots chime about how xyz they're selling is verby and very scripted all day long)? Message boards, probably, if it wasn't pulled for revealing in-game secrets.... and.... well, okay, help combat is decent.

Why not condense all that into 'you could type help combat if you wanted to'?
