The most literal assemblage of definitions if my first, middle, and last name, comes out to something like 'Pale belonging to god downflowing river', which was entirely unintentional.
Of course, a series of alternate explanations give 'pale jehova is god river' so at least it's pretty similar.

Wanna know what a chat I frequent's favorite game to play is? Spot the bad name. It could be done on weekly basis, monthly basis, whenever you feel like basis, stuff like that. Basically, we type WHO FULL and see how many awful names we can spot. The winner receives fabulous prizes, such as tickets to Simucon, a new condo, and real cash money, just to name a few! No not really, because I'd win every time. If I could profit from the amount of awful names I see on the list, that'd be a different story and I wouldn't be posting on this thread.
Anyway, long story short, the mood's seized me again, so let's see what winners we can scrounge up.
Pudgybelly, a new favorite.
Benzaldehyde, a great classic.
Soulsailor, may his soul sail long.
And now, a drumroll please for the winner... Hashtag! Last name pending: Yoloswag.
I understand that there is a lot of grey area when it comes to picking out a name. Some people brought up some very good points, such as what is DR, even? Fantasy, steampunk, there's elements of Asian cultures, it's a gorgeous mixing pot of imagination and wonder that, frankly, has kept us around this long. But some of these names just cause a kneejerk reaction that doesn't belong in a fantasy game. I figured out a good litmus test. Take the A Song of Ice and Fire series. They can make names like Jon and Robert work alongside names like Rhaegar and Tywin. Pick any fantasy publication for that matter, and see if, amidst the world-building prose and immersive events, you can visualize a seamless Lord Pudgybelly. Terry Pratchett's publications don't count. I'm not asking anyone to play devil's advocate, I'm asking to really, really stop and close your eyes and see if there isn't an instant kneejerk reaction to some of these names. That's all it comes down to.
If nothing else, please can Hashtag get a name change.

You can report names you think are inappropriate but I've seen people grabbed by the guys in white coats with names that are borderline right next to people who've played for years with names that are way over the line. For your own sanity just pronounce stupid names like Hashtag as Hoshtog (in your head) or else they'll drive you crazy. When you pull up the online player list there are some really terrible names but some of them were thought up more than 15 years ago. Then think about all the dumb names people in the real world bestow upon their children in an attempt to make them special. I agree hashtag isn't cool as a name but with all the languages we have ingame, who knows? Hashtag might actually translate to holy defender of Elanthia.
