>I HATED that. I was so happy when it went away. I believe if you were the closest person to where they died you were the victim.

Distance never plays nice in DR, familiars frequently went to look for help on the other side of the continent. One of the reasons they stopped trying!

Allissia some of your memories brought back chuckles, and some don't jive with mine.

Man the familiar thing...that was so annoying.

"The only thing you had to rely on was your friends to come look for you or hope that a stranger passed by and took pity enough to drag you."

We certainly did a lot more of that and much less 'training' then.

"Reporting: When did this happen? People didnt report! You mouthed off, you hoped it wasnt to someone who could kill you. And if they did, you died, got raised then plotted revenge or learned your lesson. And if
you were wronged for no reason the GM's didnt take care of it, your friends did if you couldnt! See above: The point of having friends."

I really just don't remember people being so trigger happy then. Maybe it was because the spread of skills was smaller, but especially early on, I just don't remember folks trying to stir up trouble as much. I can remember how that all changed in Riverhaven over time. Most often away from Crossing there was a core group of folks who looked after each other, even if they weren't your best friend.

"When clerics took newbies to get favors instead of yelling at them"

Oh god no- we were much more strident about it in the old days. There were legendary lectures from clerics about the need for favors. I just got tired of telling folks the obvious. Of course in the old days, if you had a festival crossbow it was because you were rich- you could afford a 5 plat crossbow! Do you remember the uproar when one of the first clerics charged, I think, 1 plat for resurrections? Folks accused him of terrible things inside the game and out.

"Carrying 5 loaded crossbows!" 15 loaded HX's in my backpack during an invasion, and not being able to be dragged because my burden was too high.

"Players continuing to do their own RP even when the GM's werent around. You always played that role no matter if something was going on or not. "

I really only see the difference in the amount of players that are unresponsive. It was much more rare to find characters that were unresponsive in the old days. I know my style of RP has mellowed- I just don't find a thrill after 12 years of playing some fanatical cleric. Fanaticism is hard to maintain over the years.

"When Clerics, Empaths and Paladins helped during an invasion. No need to be assigned to a triage unit. You rejuved the first name you saw, you healed the first name you could make out in the scroll and the younger paladins glyphed their hearts out! No one yelling about how they were in charge and you had to do it their way, in their place. You just did it."

I remember a lot of disorganized triages that went on for ever. I have no particular fondness for those confused events. At one of the last invasions I worked Triage, I actually grabbed an Empath and asked her to take charge because we were split between two rooms and somebody needed to make it more efficient. And counter to your earlier post, in the those earlier triages, there were usually tons of newbie corpses- both those who stumbled across invasions and those who were running around grabbing loot. I see far fewer newb corpses now than the old days.

Who remembers the day the Hoy opened?

Yeah, back in the old days, everyone would log on noob characters to graverob with. Now there's some mechanical protections in place, plus people are smarter about using rare equipment so it happens less.

Well, that wasn't what I was thinking of, but yep, that was annoying.
