Does anyone else find it rather silly, that someone would take the extra time to use a ("}person /tone) in front of their speech to someone, then not even bother with a question mark when using a question?
If it's important enough to say TO someone, and important enough to be a certain TONE, do they really not care if it comes out as 'says to so-and-so' or 'asks so-and-so'?
Then there's the whole "Someone heal me" vs "Someone heal me?". In one, you're asking for help, in the other, you're making a demand.

Anyone who's spoken to me IG long enough knows that I'm prone to missing entire words or cut off my sentences because I'm typing too fast and hit enter too soon (ie: not paying attention). If missing something like a question mark isn't a habit for the person, it's not a big deal.

>>I dislike question marks, mostly because in my head it translates to "uptalking". If there will be some confusion and I cant think of a way to word it so it is clear it is a question without the question mark I will go ahead and use it.
Maybe it's because it's late and I'm tired but I don't understand, can you clarify that a bit please? I'm genuinely curious.

I THINK they mean when people speak and ask a question, their voice raises at the end. For some reason, when they ask a question, they don't want people to think that's what they're doing. WHY they don't want that, I couldn't answer.

A lot of younger people have a tendency to make their statements sound like questions. ("My name is Jennifer? I have an appointment for today? It's in five minutes?")
I think this person is just taking that to the opposite extreme. Instead of statements that sound like questions, this person's questions sound like demands.

>>I dislike question marks, mostly because in my head it translates to "uptalking".
Same with me. For me, if I want to ask a question without the 'uptalking', I'll just replace the question mark with a period. It's probably not proper english or whatever, but thats just how it works in my brain.
And now that I think about it, it works the other way around too. Using a question mark at the end of something that would otherwise be a statement to imply the uptalking.
>> WHY they don't want that, I couldn't answer
Just another method of trying to convey exactly how your character is acting, like any other emote for say.

It is mostly that I am trying to facilitate the other player's ability to interpret the text of my speech as a tone of voice..but also I think question marks seem to beg for an answer and hang in the air which can be irritating. But like I said if there could be any confusion as to whether it is a question or not I make sure it is clear.

>>Exactly. I might say "is anyone healing" which to me seems just calmer than "is anyone healing?" which is a bit calmer than "is anyone healing!?"
(I can't believe I'm even being sucked into this.)
What's wrong with:
' /calm Is anyone healing?
Or /firmly, or /matter-of-fact, or /darkly, or /curtly, or /grumpily, or /quietly, or /guardedly....
This way, you can both express the tone, and punctuate, which is a pretty common convention in written communication. I mean, we can all drop punctuation sometimes, but why

I'm not being picky about it--I just don't understand it. I mean, I drop punctuation when I'm typing IG, sure. I think we all do. But I don't get intentionally choosing to go with no punctuation as a "style" of asking a question specifically. I wouldn't even say I'm criticizing; to each their own. I just really don't understand it, and now my curiosity is piqued.

there was a paladin named pureblade that used to say everything "calmly", and i caught myself wondering if someone had lit his boots on fire he would have said calmly, "my foot is on fire. ouch."
I'd rather see someone use a variety of emotions depending upon the situation than for someone to only use one all the time. I mean, its as bad as someone speaking "darkly" all the time. We get it. You're dark and evil and all that.
It's a number, it gets bigger. That's the whole DR experience right there

You spelled it wrong, it's e e cummings hehe Anyway Christopher Walken does it too. I read an interview with him where he says he purposefully puts emphasis on parts of words where they are not normally supposed to be
Cute verbs and speaking from hiding are excellent ways to catch a lightning bolt in the face regardless of mystical ninja abilities.
