The contestant must carve his/her cane upon start of the challenge. When the challenge is first stated, the contestants will have their carving tool in their right hand and an empty left hand. The judge the states “go” and both contestants race to grab a branch and carve it immediately. Once the cane is made, the carving knife must be sheathed and the contestant may then begin advancing upon their opponent.
The spars go until one of the contestants is rendered unconscious or admits the other contestant is the better opponent.
The contestants may use any available methods to keep their vitality and fatigue up such as spells or music. Spells or means used to lessen the amount of damage incurred to the contestant may be used such as Sphere of Protection, or Ethereal Shield, but no spells that stop the opponent from advancing, such as Halt or Calming spells, may be used.
Defensive mechanisms and abilities which enhance ones defenses are able to be used such as spells, music, or berserking.
Hiding is allowed, including any spells which assist hiding.
Perception enhancing abilities may be used. (Example, a War Mage may use Earth Sense to help to see a hidden contestant, but not Tremor to shake them out.)
All defensive spells may be pre-prepped and in use before the competition begins.
Mechanical Lore enhancements may be used to carve the cane.
No offensive means may be used except for the cane.
A bard will be allowed to play “Hodierna’s Lilt” during the competitions if one so chooses to do so. No empaths may be used to help the contestants during the spars, but will be available after the spar has ended.
If you are not present when your name is called to begin the spar, you are immediately disqualified. You will have 5 minutes to recover and heal from the last spar if you happen to compete back to back.
Any violation of the rules leads to immediate disqualification for the offending contestant.
