I keep reading that this affects us too, anyone mind filling me in a bit?

Our bonus system has always been hazy to me -- Urban, Confidence and Rep. All I know about really is Confidence.

I should probably ask somewhere else, but what exactly does good Reputation offer?

Urban = Goes from 0 (wilderness) to + (urban) Location dependent. Boosts skills

Confidence = Goes from - to + Follows you every where. Boosts skills. Negative confidence can offset the urban bonus.

Rep = Goes from - to 0. Providence dependent. Effects abilities.

Such that certain survival skills were not taking the bonus into account with certain actions/reactions and now are.

To followup on the Reputation:

Having a bad reputation certain abilities will be removed from you, but on returning reputation to good standings the abilities should return.

There is no bonus or benefit, other then having your abilities to having your reputation high.

Reputation ties into the Justice system, having high reputation will make pleading innocent slightly easier.

Really?

Do you have something to confirm this high reputation makes pleading innocent sightly easier?

I thought the GMs were developing abilities, bonuses for having a high reputation because it was a system that was underdeveloped, at least in that regard?

Apparently memory failed me there. High Reputation reduces/increases fines if its high/low.

Doesn't rep also affect the cost of using contacts?

I've also been wondering. Is the Thief location bonus instant or is there a drift similar to rangers. If I've been hunting outside town for hours then go into town to do a stealing run or pick boxes, am I instantly back at my urban bonus or am I slowly/quickly regaining urban bonus?

Thanks.

Also I think I read it somewhere, but are those random neutral/rural type shops in the middle of cities going to be changed to urban?

Confidence has drift, but I believe urban bonus is on/off, with different levels for more urban/less urban.

Thief bonus is instant change, you lose all bonus as soon as you go into a neutral / rural area (although you aren't penalized) and you get it back immediately on stepping back into urban areas, with the size of the bonus dependent on the urbanity.

The Thief urban bonus is smaller than Ranger wild bonus, but Confidence can bring it it to the same maximum as the current Ranger bonus, if you're in a city.

Your surroundings fit your talents perfectly.

Is that the max for urban bonus? Or is it just the max for messaging while the bonus still varies?

There are 3 'bonus' you need to track. One is not on your character, but the effect of the surroundings on your character. This does not travel with you. The other two do travel with you. One is how confident you are. This is a matter of knowing what you can do, where and when. It's like knowing you are good at tests, when faced with a test. You do better at the test in front of you because you know you are good at this. The final one is your reputation, which I understand can be a real pain if you get a bad one. I've never done this, so, I have a heck of a time even turning myself in, if I need to do that, and my fines, if I get them, are very small. The innocent bystander is generally taken to have been seeing things.
