The choice is yours, really. As long as you don't bring attention/heat to the guild, your RP is your own. If you want to RP a blatant thief, prepare to pay the consequences. If you want to RP one who repsects fellow thieves, keeps the secret and is a dark barb, go for it. Its all how you want to take your character and, as long as you stay quiet about your true profession...there shouldn't be any hassle :)

<<Um lesse be respectful to everyone in the guild>>
You forgot to add "...who is deserving of respect." I'm not about to bare my throat and slap a smile on my face for some git that thinks just because they've spent more time training their character, they are therefore granted the right to use me and abuse me as they see fit. I make sure when I'm in the haven that I identify quickly who I can and cannot get friendly with, based on past experiences and the current situations/conversations going on.
<<but should we act darkly around others? i mean ya could say ya a dark barbarain?>>
I'm not trying to be snarky when I say this but...why even bother acting "dark", so to speak? If you're hard up on the whole black inventory, Damaris/panther paraphernalia, "Trust me because I'm not a Thief!" outfit, then by all means, get into full regalia and prance about. Just don't expect the people in the guild who are actually trying to stay secretive to acknowledge that you exist.
And why even pretend to be in a different guild? If that's your bag, then by all means, get your guild-pretending groove on. I find it generally easier to just state "I'm a commoner, with a bent for adventure" and if people insist on trying to prove me otherwise, I stick to my story, and leave if I feel things are going to degrade. I won't even communicate to another guilded in the area, if I feel they're blatantly outing themself. Like one brilliant addition to the guild who insisted on loudly asking, over and over "are U a theef?" in a crowded hunting room. I treated him like he was an insane child and told him in plain terms that there was no such thing anymore, and that I'm just the son of a leatherworker, out seeing the world.
Roleplay (or not) how and when you see fit, though I really do find it easier to have a good story in hand for as many situations as you can possibly dream up.

Some of us do rp a blatant thief and do so knowing the consequences.
(every hotshot bigger then you with an ego problem decides somewhere they actually got enforcing rights from the boss himself/herself)
Not that i care, a favor is easy to get and armor does repair.
So if you're on Ratha and you see an outlaw run by feel free to wave or stab or whatever
"Vyrath whistles softly as he gently smooths and straightens a master's iron lockpick."
