I just want to put my Two Kronars here if possible. I know Miryam and I know you as well Ahkshan. I've helped you out alot when you were first starting out as a trader. One thing I've learned in this guild is not to assume anything and to move on up you have to rely on your own. To expect another trader to give up their customers for you is really condescending. As for not teaching trading thats up to the trader alone and its not an unspoken rule. I've taught you when you were younger and I've taught alot of the other traders trading when I can and there is nothing wrong with that. If you aren't willing to teach trading to another trader that is younger than you, how can you expect someone to give up their customers for you to circle. I put up My Two Kronars for a reason and that is to help traders out, new and old..but that doesn't mean I expect everyone to share with me what they know. If they do then thats good, if not then thats good too. Yanno?

>Hmm, I politely asked her if she was aware of the custom of sharing customers in the gem shop. I didn't start yelling or glare or anything like that, didn't even pick up a rude or sarcastic tone which would be common for me. I've hung out with Miryam before and enjoyed her company which is why I was being nice to her about it. When I asked her the first time, she acted shocked that I would ask her such a question. I couldn't tell if it because she didn't understand said custom or if it was a "holier than thou" type thing. So, I asked again. Then she left.

You're right, she shouldn't have to turn away customers so I could circle, and that's not what I was asking. All I asked was that if two customers come into the gem shop that she doesn't know and there's another Trader there, that she doesn't "hog" the business of both customers. From what I understood, sharing customers was another unspoken trust among Traders, like not teaching trading. Hence the thread.

No more to say to this right now.

First, i'm forever in your debt for how much you helped me out when I was younger. Second, correct me if i'm wrong, but is what you're saying pretty much not to rely on people for basic courtesy because not everyone provides it? Well, I happen to agree, i've met some pretty rude people in DR and have had the embarrassment of being one on a few occasions. However, in this particular case I was having such expectations from someone i'd met before and therefore expected more from. Once again, perhaps I was mistaken to do so, but 9 times out of 10 I can predict people's behavior not to change drastically and be safe.

I don't think Miryam was trying to be cruel to me, I think she was expecting me to do what she was doing - to jump on customers as they walked in to try and have me sell their pouches. That just isn't my style. When someone comes in I might bow to them or nod to them or something but I don't usually come right out and say things like "Can I help you?" or "Do you need any pouches sold?" unless they've been standing around for a while looking like they don't know what they're doing.

In the time i've been a Trader i've tried to build a solid reputation for myself and I definitely have succeeded among some, not so much among others. I try to be friendly and take things lightly unless further measures are required. I definitely have my circle of friends and they're more valuable to me than any circle or coin or possession or anything else, and I try to make sure they know that.

On the other hand, when I feel i'm being faced with an injustice, it's not like me to sit back and take it. As everyone knows from extensive experience with my rants on the boards and IG, I don't take ANYTHING lying down. Sometimes I'm right in doing so, sometimes i'm not. In this case, the issue has passed, if it happens again I don't plan to handle it much differently - i'll say something to the other Trader, just as I did to Miryam. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If they have a different view of what's "fair", so be it. I just hope they're not in the Crossing gem shop when Apu stops by cos they'll be mighty disappointed at how many pouches they get to sell :)

This is why I avoid Trader's selling my pouches entirely.

Traders A: "BUT WHY DID YOU NOT PICK ME!?"

Traders B: "Yay, I sold Ruffles's gem pouch."

Trader C: "Maybe I need to flirt with Ruffles a bit more, so I can sell his gem pouches."

Apu: "Let me circle!" (This part is true <g>)

Wow I thought I was the high-maintence trader around here, now I look like a great big old softie.

I ran into this very early in my career when I would actively ask people if I could sell their pouches hoping to get people to pick me over Alexria or who ever happened to be there. And eventually I suceeded. The older traders didn't like me constantly asking customers if I could sell their pouches cause it took business from them and they felt it was rude.

Ahhh the memories.

I agree. Gem pouch selling is lame. Get out of the stuffy gem shops and run contracts.

Selling your gems is easy and is not worth the hassle of Trader's fighting over a customer. The profit you get is a few gold to plats at best.

Uh, yeah. A few gold and/or plats at best. Is there something better than that? Now maybe if you had said a few bronze to silvers at best, it might be worth arguing, but I don't think folks are flinching over making only a few more gold or plats using a trader.

I went earlier and sold all my pouches from hunting steeds and having me, a Trader, sell them, I had 3.8 plat more than otherwise on typically 7 to 8 gold individually full pouches. I imagine in larger pouches (3 to 10 plat range), the differences would be even more significant.

But just a few gold or plats so. Who needs that anyways, right Ruffles?

These numbers are in Dokoras, and my total adjusted total in Kronars would of been 202407.

I also have 3 packed fur crates from skinning on my caravan I haven't sold yet (I don't bother with bundles anymore, grab crate from storage box, put skin in, put crate back in storage box) which will garner me a few more platinums. I love being a hunter-trader. Totally self sufficient and extremely proftable...still praising storage boxes for caravans. That really made a difference.

Ahoy there matey! (Gidske)

I'm referrin' to smaller gem pouches ta not let a Trader sell yer pouch. It's too much hassle and not worth it. The bigger ones be debatable whether they are worth a trader sellin' 'em or not. It's a hassle through and through, jes not worth it.

It's yer call ta make whether ya want ta sell through a trader or not, but the hassle of "OMG HE DID NOT PICK ME!" is enough to jes say enough. My time is better spent plunderin', then talkin' to a trader about he will get me that special extra 3 plats I've always dreamed about.

There's really no point arguing with Ruffles, he really doesn't need the extra profit generated by a Trader selling his pouches (if you read his posts on other topics coughshipscough, you'd probably figure this out).

To the rest of Elanthia who need money.. give all your pouches to me! Or else... (read my previous posts about what I do to meddling Traders in the gem shop).

To bring this back on topic, take the poll on my site!

uhm.. yea.

Imagine that. Over 60% of the folks that visit your Trader web page plays a Trader the most.

Oddly, Rangers and War Mages are tied at second with 20% each, while all other guilds are at 0%.

I can only assume there are just so many Rangers and War Mages within the player population, they are literally everywhere. Sort of like roaches.

I like the website.
