Pawn prices. No ranting and raving. Here's the facts:
>get slipp
A sales clerk rushes over to help you.
The sales clerk smiles and says, "The price on some supple black slippers with thin leather straps is 3173 Dokoras. You can BUY the item if you like."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your black slippers and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 850 dokoras for it.
>ask windawn about cloth backtube
Windawn Marachek beams at you. "A man of discernment. Checkpage 2 in our catalog, then you can order the item. My opening offer is, let's see...856 Dokoras."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your cloth backtube and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 123 dokoras for it.
>ask marachek about scimitar
Ivo Marachek nods. "I believe you'll find that on page 1 of our catalog. You can order it, of course. My opening offer would be 1713 dokoras."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your scimitar and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 71 dokoras for it.
>ask struan about dirk
Struan nods. "I think there's a few of those left. Look on page 2 in the catalog and I think you'll find it. Starting price is about 4284 dokoras."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your ring pommel dirk and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 546 dokoras for it.
>get arrows
A sales clerk rushes over to help you.
The sales clerk smiles and says, "The price on some silver-tipped arrows is 856 Dokoras. You can BUY the item if you like."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your silver-tipped arrows and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 301 dokoras for it.
>ask demiciil about chain balaclava
Demiciil nods and says, "Yes, I have that in stock. The price is 556 doks. If that is acceptable, you may ORDER it."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your chain balaclava and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 20 dokoras for it.
>get pouch
A sales clerk rushes over to help you.
The sales clerk smiles and says, "The price on a black velvet pouch embroidered with deep purple lotus blossoms is 2408 Dokoras. You can BUY the item if you like."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your velvet pouch and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 1058 dokoras for it.
>ask sierack about elbaite runestone
Sierack smiles at you and says, "Yes, I carry that. You may ORDER it if you like sir. I ask 1713 dokoras."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your elbaite runestone and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 527 dokoras for it.
>ask malik about gittern
Malik beams with obvious pride and says, "Ah, yes, this gittern. A fine item, at a fine price. Difficult to play, but worth the price. You can find it on page 1 of my catalog. You can ORDER it, if you want it. My opening offer is 1391 doks."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your gittern and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 356 dokoras for it.
>ask kilam about ruby signet ring
Kilam says, "Good choice! You can find that on page 3 of the catalog, and you can order it if you like. I usually sell those for 2570 dokoras."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your signet ring and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 654 dokoras for it.
>ask imadrail about golden bell
"Oh yes", Sister Imadrail clasps her hands together and nods at you with a pleased expression on her face. "That is a very good choice, and your generous payment of 2570 dokoras will do much to aid the charitable causes which this emporium supports.
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your golden bell and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 13 dokoras for it.
(Okay, I said no ranting. Sorry, but c'mon! Are you KIDDING?)
>ask avlea about iron tipped longbow
Avlea smiles at you shyly, "Yes, I have those in stock. You may ORDER it, if you like. The price is 5826 dokoras."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your iron-tipped longbow and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 622 dokoras for it.
>ask zerek about heavy crossbow
Zerek smiles, "Now that's a nice piece of merchandise. You can read more about it on page 3 in the catalog, and you can order it for 642 dokoras."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your heavy crossbow and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 130 dokoras for it.
>ask fiona about cutlass
Fiona lays aside her work and leans against the table in a lazily-relaxed pose. "Ahh yes. Definitely some of my better craftmanship," she says with a satisfied smile. "I believe I could let you have it for, oh...," she glances your way then finishes, "6426 doks. If you think you can afford that then feel free to ORDER it."
Pawnmonger Aelik takes your razor-edged cutlass and gives it a quick but thorough examination. After pausing for a moment, he hands you 479 dokoras for it.
Okay, the totals:
Shop prices: 34984 dokoras (3.5 plat)
Pawn prices: 5750 dokoras (less than 6 gold)
Pawn prices / Shop prices = 16%
There's a couple in there that are decent. (Pouch from Citizen only shop, and arrows from survivalist shop, two good examples. Pouches can only be stolen by Zoluren citizens. Arrows rotate, they aren't always there, and the shop is outta the way when compared with the rest of the shops.) And there's some that are downright horrible. My guess is by tomorrow those golden bells will be worthless, its currently Half a percentage point of its shop value. Scimitar from Marachek's is almost as bad, at 4%.
So the question is: Who is ripping off who?

I can't say much about this, except there are several factors that factor into price in pawn shops, which is why you're seeing price differences.
Also, if you want better prices, you could always have a trader sell it for you, since the pawn brokers are more likely to trust them...

True, and That is what I usually do.
However, there are certain items that need to be coded to be sellable to the pawners because they are being treated generically by whatever the Pawnsell code is by name rather than what they actually are.
3 cases in point:
The flower preservative potion <sold on Aesry and in Crossing>.
This is being treated in the same manner as healing potions,etc--which it is not. This should be pawnable and isn't.
The wish eggs sold in Muspar'I. These are being treated as a "food" item--which they are NOT--and hence unpawnable. They should be individually coded as pawnable.
The Jars and Jugs sold in Muspar'I. Again, they are unpawnable. By traders or anyone else.

I kinda doubt that it's because the game is thinking that it is a healing potion. Flower potions used to sell for a silver or 2 a few years ago, but now they're worthless because so many were sold. So I think it's entirely a whole different problem that ought to be fixed :)

Equity, that list was just the raw data. I suppose I should have clarified exactly what I was complaining about.
Yes, I know many things can factor into the prices I get. The fact is that some of the items I pawn are worth far more than what the pawn shop thinks.
Some of the poor prices are due to the outdated code that drops pawn price by how many of that item are pawned. Example, those golden bells used to sell for 3-4 silver or more. Why are so many pawned? Because its the only item from that shop that pawns at all - despite some items being sold for more that have never pawned - or due to the fact that's its still impossible to steal any kind of "customized" item.
Another is due to the fact that many item's appraisal value does not in any way relate to what the item is sold at. Example, the scimitar from Marachek's Oak appraises at 189 doks when its sold for 1713 doks.
Having a Trader sell them, well, sure, I can do that. How is that going to fix the problems with the system? I'm not complaining about low prices directly, I'm complaining about the CAUSES of the low prices. Someone else selling them is going to degrade the prices just as much, and it's not going to affect the appraisal price of the items in the slightest. One needs to be fixed through the pawn system, the other needs to be fixed from the shops - or whatever item system controls the appraisal value of items.

Is the system outdated?
Absolutely. Which is why I'm going to redo the system (this is not news, i've been brooding to you guys about it for a long time.)
However, I do want to point out that store supply should always factor in to a sales price...imo...on either end, for buying and selling. It will always be a factor in pawn. If anything, the system is broke because it does not take into account shop inventory for merchant style goods.
As for certain items treated as food, etc. Anything that has doses, or wear out, where a person can get to 1 left and sell it, has to be unpawnable, at least for now.

I agree it should, but why does it exist only for pawned goods? I just want things to be treated consistently. We're expected to beleive that a city can only handle so much of x-shop item, yet be able to take an infinite number of gems or skins with the price never dropping based on number sold. Consistentcy. That's all I want.
>>As for certain items treated as food, etc. Anything that has doses, or wear out, where a person can get to 1 left and sell it, has to be unpawnable, at least for now.<<
Last I checked, the preservative potions had exactly one dose the moment they're taken from the shop. So instead of having doses, its one-time-use item.
<prepares to cut his own throat, or at least pockets, in questing for consistentcy>
Runes only have so many uses. They pawn. I'd bet wands and rods do as well, I just don't acquire those. Thoughts?

How does this apply to the wish eggs sold in Muspar'I?
they don't wear out. They don't have doses. They are purely RP fluff in function. Yet they have not been pawnable--ever.

I'm kinda curious were you got the idea that pawnshops should buy things at competative prices. Have you ever sold something to a pawnshop in RL; you're never going to get anywhere near retail price(I know RL doesn't necassarily have to translate to in-game). The whole purpose of a pawnshop, both in-game and in RL, is for the seller to make quick cash selling items they have on hand. And, for the store owner to make a profit by buying low and selling high. Besides, if your far enough along to be able to afford items that cost thousands of kronars, you probably don't need to worry about what the pawnbrokers are paying. I really don't see where your coming from...unless your just greedy like the rest of us.

>>you're never going to get anywhere near retail price<<
I'm not asking for retail price. I would be more than happy to get a solid 20%-30% of retail price for each item sold. Or at least be guaranteed (more or less) to get the 15%-20% I get now - and the prices not dropping any further than they already have, while those items that used to sell (and are now worthless) are fixed to 15%-20% of their retail value.
I don't think its unreasonable to ask for some reward to the risk involved with acquiring those items - especially since all indications point to increasing risk (when the Justice system and other systems I will not mention here are finished and rewritten).
Equity, please don't take this personally. I know you're working as hard as you can on pawnshops, and I'm very grateful you are. I love you for it, since pawnshops have been one of my pet peeves for years now. I'm trying to educate those who do not deal with the pawnshops much and don't understand the problems inherent in the current system.

<chuckles> That one gave me a laugh. Not all of us gain money by trading or hunting.

ok, I have yet to find prices are bad for what I pawn. If its true and pawnshops are broken, well I cant wait for em to be fixed. I make almost 33% of the buy value of the items I aquire. If you are looking to make money on the items you pawn, look me up in game I can maybe head you in the right direction to profitablity. There are a lot of factors that I have found, but at my current circle, I find I get the same prices as my daughter trader, who is half my circle, but has of course good trading skill and the same charisma.

as your daughter circles the amount she can get as a trader will surpass yours, even at a sizable circle difference and with the same charisma.

I pawn roughly 100-150+ items per hour while I'm training. Lately, I've been training almost nonstop. One load starts upping my burden significantly. I don't have the space nor the strength to get it all pawned once every few days like gems. I need the stuff moved nearly immediately once I acquire it.
Still interested?
