I was born in 1969, been married since 1991, have 3 kids (11, 10, 6), and played D&D through the 80s and early 90s (how I met my wife). I was always the DM (aka GM) and never got to play as much as I wanted to. Spent 8 years in the Army (1988 to 1996). In 1996, I bought an IBM and got hooked up through AOL. Used to lay around in the AD&D chat rooms and was playing Neverwinter Nights, when I stumbled upon Gemstone 3 around June of 1996. In August 1996, I decided to try DragonRealms because I liked the name.
I started out as an elf paladin named Angelleaf, MALE character (all my characters back then had goofy names...I didn't really put much stock in it at the time, but after a year of being confused for a female..). I played until 1997 and at that point I had a procession of different characters (no Traders) who I played, deleted, quit, returned, played...etc. In October 2000, after a disappointing run on Everquest, I decided to come back to DR and made Gidske.
I have veered off in my almost 2 years with Gidske with other characters, but now have been playing Gidske exclusively for the past year, and don't have a desire to play any other race or class again. I have tried them all and have found the Trader Guild to be the most enjoyable and it has the most mature crowd out there.
I expect I will not be in DR "forever" either, though after 6 years now, it feels that way. I just haven't found anything that "does" it for me like DR has.

I work as a shipping supervisor, a job I got last May after I had moved out to NC (I'd quit DR for a few months while going through this transition - irony is I became a trader guru in a RL sense). It is a good paying job, and I enjoy it. I also enjoy being a Drill, better though.
I'd spent 8 years in active Army prior to this, some years before. And I suppose I had my eye on doig something with those years at some point. At some point I did, and enlisted with a Drill Serjeant unit here.
I had a choice over the past two months of going to train basic trainees in Ft. Jackson for a year, or going to Iraq in 2006 to train Iraqi soldiers. I chose Ft. Jackson. I've been to Iraq before, not as a Drill though. For a change, the choice is mine though.
There we go. So if anyone is headed to basic training over the next year, drop me a line. I'll see about coming by to 'smoke' you. ::grin:: And say hi afterwards.
That's about it. Lord knows a year in DR is an eternity and I look forward to seeing all the changes that that has brought when I return. Sort of like going to sleep in a time capsule.

Gidske, good luck with it! Hope you enjoy, and you know we'll all be back here when you return. The tough part is I can't lose any tagos until next year!
