No, we couldn't do the usual delivery of commodities by caravan. However, seeing this message gave me an idea:
[Martrem's Forge and Armory]-Aesry
A trader enters, and speaks to Martrem in a low voice, showing him a bar of pig iron. Martrem hefts a bar with effortless ease, chipping a sliver from the end and examinging it carefully before nodding to the trader. They haggle a while on the price, then Martrem sends one apprentice running to the bank and the others working to unload the iron. Receiving his coins, the trader bows and leaves to go about his business.
Now--why couldn't we have some sort of non-caravan trading to the islands---There wouldn't have to be a caravan involved for there to be a "time factor"==because waiting for the boats is quite enough of a time factor.
What we could do is 2 types of contracts--1 from the mainland <riverhaven to aesry via the lybadel>, or ratha to aesry via the halasa selhin---of course the trader guild there would have to open up their outpost...
but we could receive say a strongbox or other container--and we could haul it to the Islands ourselves and receive compensation---Or---get some needed supplies <that would have been "shipped" by boats and end up in the warehouse by the trader guild there---and we could take them up the stairs to the appropriate shop in the City itself.
