Not sure if this is the right place for this question but i heard there is an item called an appraisers loop and i was curious if there really was, if it did anything or was just RP, and if it is real where can it be bought?

You mean one of these:
an exquisite jeweler's loupe
LOOK: This delicate magnifying eyepiece has been handcrafted out of sleek ebony wood with smooth polished lenses.
They sold a few of them at the last trader fest. Also, there is a very expensive one from the more recent quest (I get them confused; the one with the snow and stuff) that appraises just a bit over 60 plats.
There are a few more, but I don't recall any being sold through the Trader shops in a couple years or so. Also, far as I can tell, it is just an RP item. Doesn't seem to help in any sense with appraising. For actual usage, http://www.mytwokronars.com has some decent info on them too.

That's such a cool description, I bet whoever came up with that was really cool <bops himself>

They were originally sold in the Traders shop after a 'design an item' contest (I'll give you 3 guesses whose entry it was :)
My original suggestion was that we be able to use them to tell whether a gem has been clarified or not (like the piercing gaze spell), but Godrich said he'd have to wait for substances to be redone to add that. Of course at that time, it was thought that substances would be done pretty soon, and of course this is a couple years later and they still are not. But supposedly the loupes may have an actual use in gemcutting, assuming that it is released before the year 2010.

G'day,
You know, that reminds me. Since substances and gem changes are somewhat delayed, if folks really want me to, I'll see about adding in the check for clarifying to the current loupes. Assuming I can remember how to tell if they have been clarified <g>.

If it's not a big hassle to code, I'd like to see it added. It would save me the trouble every now and then of having to log on a moonmage, bring him to the gemshop, cast piercing gaze and then log out. I'd probably use that at least a few times a day if I could just do it myself with the loupe.
Maybe it could even teach some appraisal? :)

I don't have a loupe yet but that still sounds like it'd be a nifty idea.
