Alright, couple things wrong with this spell since I've been playing with it.

1. Duration. I think the cap to this spell is suppose to be 28 minutes, but right now it's stackable.

With a capped cast at 55 mana:

<<You sense the presence of the Blufmor Garaen spell surrounding your forearms, which should last around twenty-two roisaen or until the winds have been spent.

After a couple more casts:

<<You sense the presence of the Blufmor Garaen spell surrounding your forearms, which should last around one hundred sixty-seven roisaen or until the winds have been spent.

With the initial 55 capped BG, I got seven uses out of it. With the stackable version, only 5.

2. I'm not sure on the specifics, because not has been released about this spell. Initially I'm going to guess that Dragon's Breath and Blufmor Garaen doesn't stack with each other, because whenever you try to cast BG with DB already up, it disperses.

Alas, >>You sense the warmth of the Dragon's Breath spell upon you, which should last around forty-seven roisaen or until you use it up as flaming spittle.
You sense the presence of the Blufmor Garaen spell surrounding your forearms, which should last around twenty-one roisaen or until the winds have been spent.

Try it visa-versa, it sticks.

3. Not sure if this intended, but you can continue wailing on a creatures corpse once it is dead.

>look dune
You see a small sand dune, which is dead.
The sand dune has several large cracks in the sand along the head, tiny hairline cracks along the neck, a slightly cracked sand right arm, a slightly cracked sand right leg, a slightly cracked sand left hand, a moderately cracked and splintered sand chest, several large cracks in the sand along the abdomen, tiny hairline cracks along the back and minor cracks around the left eye.
It is wearing nothing!
It is holding nothing!

The narrow pulse of wind lands a heavy strike to a small sand dune's chest!

I did a real quick comparison of the two for my own curiosity. With low 300s in magic this is what I get from each:

DB
mana: 33 (min prep 11 + orb with 22)
duration: 43 min.
spits: 6

BG
mana: 33 (min prep 15 + orb with 18)
duration: 18 min.
gestures: 3

And for fun here are the messages for casting one with the other up:

You feel a sense of heat around your neck before rustling winds sound and your pattern suddenly dissipates.

And:

Winds flicker around your arms, but a sudden heat in your throat flares up and your pattern suddenly dissipates.

sorry for the double

If I point or wave at my familiar with this up, it is going to shatter all my talismans?

I'd like to see some improvements to this spell. Unfortunately with Dragon's breath, you cannot specify body parts. I think with this spell we should be able to POINT/SLAP/WAVE <target> <bodypart>.

Also, with DB you can exhale all in order to drop the cast. Can we something similiar with this spell?

Now that I think about it, you CAN overwrite the existing BG effect with a new cast, so that's not really needed.

Found another problem with BG.

>>H>slap money
With a sharp overhand motion, you send a focused blast of air directly at a miserly moneygrubber!
The fierce blast of wind lands an obliterating hit (Hodierna winces!) to a miserly moneygrubber's abdomen!
Begrudgingly admitting defeat, a miserly moneygrubber tumbles forward and perishes. With a final ghostly wail, he cries, "I would have given you ten percent! I swear!"
Roundtime: 1 sec.
HR>hid
Eh? But you're already hidden!

You can use the SLAP verb while hidden and it doesn't take you out of hiding.

Right now DB and BG are a little too similar to each other, we'll probably be changing up DB a bit in Magic 3.0 to make the two spells more functionally distinct.

It seems like, if anything, DB should be the one you can finely target, in light of BG's damage selection.

Mott got 7 shots off his

Blufmor Garaen works in and under water.. casting at least, not sure about point, wave, slap.

Possible to have this work on point with hiders? or are there too hooks in the system for that? I can deal with point, point though.

VOI on the caster also seems to kill the whole spell with the caster, not just single shots. It only uses one charge on a target with VOI though.

Mottdos gestures at you with a casual flick of his wrists.
Your veil of ice shatters with a loud CRACK as it blocks Mottdos's spell!

Mottdos gestures at you with a casual flick of his wrists.
Your dark mantle of aether flutters angrily as if caught in a sudden wind.
The targeting matrix of Mottdos's spell is twisted and pulled apart by your Aether Cloak.
A gale bursts harmlessly by you, kicking up dirt and ripping at your clothes

Sevli whispers, "A fierce wind blows off to Powerhaus's side, kicking up a cloud of dirt but leaving Powerhaus1 unharmed."

also Slap doesn't work when someone has ROS up, but point and wave do.

after pointing at Mottdos-

Mottdos whispers, "A fierce wind blows off to Powerhaus's side, kicking up a cloud of dirt but leaving Powerhaus1 unharmed."
>pre mof

whispers, "when you do that it, just says you have your arms at mottdos..then it looks like the spell attempts to hit you but misses..thats a bug isnt it?"

In general you can't stack them because we don't want a large number of 'free' attacks queued up and ready to go. We'd have to make the attacks inordinately weak at that point, which isn't really in anyone's best interest.

So you can cast it and use it in shallow water, it fizzles when cast and just plain does't work when you point/slap/wave in waist or deeper water.
I think Jhime said he got 10 charges off it.
I think a 'stretch' or some kind of release would be nice as said before... so far the safest way I've seen is to snap cast and stance down to 0 and point at something.

Neat so far, but I think I'll stick with DB as far as usage goes for the time being.

The likely differentiation at this point is that Dragon's Breath will probably move to a single shot spell. You cast it, you get the breath, and then you use it once. It will be much more powerful than the BG shots and have unique criticals.

Personally, when I see a spell called 'Dragon's Breath' I want to see some neat damage messaging for it.

BG would then be the spell for multiple attacks and for a bit of variety in the damage type of those attacks.

Also, I'm waiting for the first WM to accidentally attempt murder of a GMNPC with the spell.

I have to say this sounds like a terrible idea and a huge nerf to the spell.

DB is already horribly innacurate by nature, and is very seldom useful against at level oponents, you have to outclass something pretty signifigantly to land meaningful hits with it at all.

Why release a spell so similar to it just to nerf the original? And yes, changing it to be a one shot spell with some increased damage would be a pretty massive nerf.

>>Personally, when I see a spell called 'Dragon's Breath' I want to see some neat damage messaging for it.

Personally, id rather see a functionally useful spell, theres no reason neat messaging couldnt be added to it just as it is.

That's probably because you're thinking Magic 2.0. Single shot spells will be the 'best' damaging spells in M3.0.

>Why release a spell so similar to it just to nerf the original?

Technically, I had no real choice on this one. The spell was developed about a year ago and had been in QC forever. I simply released it because it was finished.

I should probably add that nothing serious is going to happen to any spell until Magic 3.0.

I'm in the process of overhauling the TM system now, having gotten through cambrinth, harnessed mana, cyclic spells, normal spells, and SvS spells.

Damage is good, but useless if you can't hit the target. It's the accuracy factor that needs improvement for DB, but i suppose you have to give up something in exchange for not having to prep/target/cast it.

How about instead of making it a single "spittle" of fire it goes to a flamethrower type thing where the actual spit takes a half minute or so. Let's say you can't do anything else while exhaling your breath on your target but you can easily switch targets. That'd be different. Also less damage more accuracy. And the target catches on fire if you have naptha in your hand.

I'm not very creative but maybe someone else can see where i'm coming from and better illustrate it.

When I say damage it's sort of synonymous with accuracy here.

Obviously you won't be getting the same kind of accuracy as full target but you shouldn't expect to need to severely outclass something to hit them.
