Hi, I have a mage with 82 ranks of targetted magic, and am looking for something other than sand sprites to hunt to learn Targettting. I can handle Rock trolls and dusk ogres, and learn weapons and such from them well which are around them same point (77 with primary weapon and 80 parry. The other defenses are in their mid to low 60s) But I can't seem to learn targetting. Any suggestions?

Blood wolves teach to about 100 in TM(started slowing down around 95 so i just assuming 100), i could handle 2 of em with defences like yourself. From there you could try fire sprites, you would have to watch yourself a bit but you would hit em fine with your weapons.

If you've got tingle, try young ogres. Else, crocs and gargs would be worth a try if your defences are at level with your TM.

i've got Theirry in DR plat up in blood wolves, and i can lock TM fine at around 91ish ranks of TM, gar zeng is your friend ;) i blast a couple at highish (20 mana) preps, then once its at very muddled, or if i'm lucky, mind locked, then i bash the hell out of them with my HE/2HE/ME/Brawling weapons (He's training more weapons as a warmie than i ever did as a barb <grins> )

once i hit 100 if it stops learning totally then i'm stuck not circling for a long while until my weapons hit 100 too. something about only needing TM for the next 5 circles hurts my head.

Hmm. Any hints on Blood wolves I can handle 3 usually, but after that it gets very dicey, and I was never able to find any good mana up on the top of the hill where they were more common than the thunder rams.

Haven swamp trolls. It'll be a bit dicey for you, but just play keep-away and they should go down relatively easy. They're incredibly parry heavy, so magic'll chew through them. Plus the area's stuffed to the gills with elemental mana. Actually, if your defenses are close to on-par with your TM, you might even be able to handle them 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 with appropriate buffs.

Controlling the sword is nothing more than controlling the mind.

theres only one room i've seen in therens blood wolves with shimmering, so i pretty much park there, of course when your the only hunting in there, you can park wherever you like ;)

if you get too many on you, high prep, cast and if you get a good stun out of them, swing your blade and finish the job, there we go your back down to two.

I don't know about that. I can just barely hunt them. Below is a rough estimate of my stats since I'm not logged in right now.

Circle 31

Agil.23
Reflex22
Strength20
Stamina20
Disc.22

PM185
Harn170
TM126

ME96
LC80
EVA80+
Parr90
Multi80

I can kill them with magic, but it's slow-going. Once they're mortally wounded I can hit them with my primary weapon. I cannot handle 2 at melee range, but one-on-one we never seem to hit each other.

When I was learning TM in the 90's, I played around in the arbelog area in the West Wilds of Riverhaven. The occasional young ogre taught TM perfectly well (GZ) and you don't need tingle for them. You also don't have to worry about scouts since they're only in the ogre-only area a little further north and down the path. Ogres are especially easy if you have IP, and mana is generally good throughout the hunting area. Arbelogs will help get the original poster's defenses up, too.

If you don't mind staying on Ratha, I'd try swains. They teach magic pretty well in that range as I recall; just don't get too close. It's pretty OOC for my character to attack drunken dwarves, so that wasn't really a good option for me, but around 110 TM I was able to drop them with a couple of 10-15 mana gar zengs.

Hope that info helps a little.
