Today I start preparing the dinner for tomorrow. With 4 boys, I do ALL the cooking with the stipulation that they clean up the dishes tomorrow. Menu will be....::::inhales:::: Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, deviled eggs, black olives, rolls, pumpkin pie, pecan pie...of course with the whipped topping on the pies. Tomorrow night, I expect to be recovering in a nice bubble bath!
Just wondering what other food, plans, and traditions are out there.

Let's see. these days my wife is doing the cooking for the family thanksgiving dinner as her grandparents are at the point where we dont want them having to cook (which they would in thier mid 80's if we didn't stop them). So to me it befalls the cleaning up, so tomorrow is my day of dish washing, Hoorah! well at least the football game is on in the kitchen.

Love green bean casserole! It's a staple at Thankgiving with my family. We also have sausage dip (mmmm) steamed egg nog (brandy in mine!), oh and spinach dip with sourdough bread along with the traditional fare. I love pumpkin pie with lots of whipped cream.
What I really love is that after thanksgiving I spend the next three days slow cooking the turkey "remains" and make a super rich stock to freeze and use in my homemade soups throughout the year. The house smells so good!

Well.. In my family, the eldest male does the cooking for the family during Thanksgiving. Been that way for the approximately 200 years my family has been in America according to various relatives. When my dad passed away 5 years ago, that passed on to me. I personally relish the task because I'm known as a good chef around here (Thank you CIA).

16 Pound Turkey named Fred (Ask Martee) (Incidently, I'll be brining the turkey in a formula of vegatable broth and spices I concocted a few years ago which leaves the turkey tasting so good, you're still savoring it a week later)
Pepper-Backed Roast Beef with a light brown sauce
French cut green bean casserole with bread and cheese topping
Braised Asparagus spears
Dessert:
Vanilla Creme Brule
Chocolate Cheesecake with strawberry glaze
Hungarian Chocolate Pudding
Wine:
This year's wine is a 1999 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon. If anyone is trying to figure out which wine for Thanksgiving yet, I HIGHLY reccomend it. It's aged really well (which is surprising for an American wine).
For Dessert: 1999 Bissersheimer Steig Huxelrebe Beeranauslese. This is a very light dessert wine which I feel improves every year. In 2002, I bought 10 bottles of this wine and I've been opening 2 a year. Again, if you're still looking for your wines, I reccomend this and all german Beeranauslese's. They typically go anywhere from 30 to 200 per bottle. If you happen to have a wine cellar or wine refrigerater, your best move is to buy a few late vintages and let them age yourself.

1999 was an excellent year for wine Elriic. I'm no wine expert, but I know the grapes were especially good that season and thus made good wines. Used to be my rule of thumb when choosing instead of standing there staring at a wall of wine for 30 minutes.
Elriic is having a Martha Stewart/Food Network style dinner. I have tried to get fancy over the years too, but in the end the traditional wins out (it's better for the turkey sammiches in the days to follow)
So now the question is....What does everyone do with the leftovers?

Leftovers? you've obviously never met my family.... BUT i there ARE any leftovers(Our party hasn't ended yet at 1 AM EST and we're still eating).... next couple of days will include turkey,mashed potatoe, butternut squash, stuffing, and gravy sandwiches on home baked bread with a bowl of candied yams and a plate of more turkey Potatoes and squash, stuffing and gravy and pie after those meals are done..... the next couple of days I plan on being VERY full of yummy food and pie.... then taking prolonged turkey induced naps....
