Two nights ago citizens witnessed a shadowy beast and blood red fiend attacking people along the coastal cliffs. A number of bandit ambushes had also been reported. While the shadowy creatures were eventually dispatched by local heroes, it was later discovered that their assault was merely a distraction.
Initial findings reveal that the banished outlaws of Wehnimer's Landing, members of the Ta'Mori clan and others had secreted off in a special mission to free a powerful creature from its prison. With aid from the consistent enemies of the town, the red-robed summoners, the Ta'Mori supposedly entered a magical red portal that took them to a scorched forest and a crumbled stone fortress.
The Ta'Mori and allies activity were later revealed when they were tracked to the portal, which had still been left open inside the hollow tree, southwest of town. By all accounts, when the heroes arrived they battled off the ghosts of elven soldiers and summoned golems, constructs and a few demons. When they reached a massive rune door in the underground of the fortress they were able to activate the runes to be let inside.
The prison was discovered to be empty, with a note left mocking the heroes and wishing them better luck next time. The parchment was not recovered as the heroes had to flee quickly before the fortress crumbled around then.
Thrayzar, the orc ally of Wehnimer's, has claimed that the prison once held a powerful and nearly unstoppable troll named Drangell. With the release of such a monster, presumably now an ally of the summoners, the town of Wehnimer's Landing could be in grave peril. As the details of the event were released, Mayor Walkar concluded with the following statement.
"I underestimated our enemies, both the summoners and the rodent Ta'Mori filth. Instead of assuming those red robes had left to lick their wounds after our last fight, they have just worked to swell their own ranks. Instead of just banishing our outlaws, we should have buried them.
I will not let another critical moment pass. While we do not yet know the full danger that Drangell may present, there is enough from what I have heard to begin building up our defense. Our town marshal Khylon has already initiated new training for our militia and our hired mercenaries are ready and able to fight.
In the coming days the framework and crates of supplies for new archery towers will be setup in the forest. Given our limited resources and not having the leisure of time, I will ask all citizens to help chop down trees and build the towers. Scouts have also been dispatched to patrol the areas outside of town, anything in hopes of giving us more time to react. The threat of Drangell may never arrive at our gates, but we will be prepared if the day comes when it does."
