The Den of Rot is now open in all instances!

After an evening of treachery and renewed hopes, the forlorn abbess Mellian attempted to breach into the Temple of Hope. She instead managed to force open a portal into the Den of Rot, an Ivasian hunting ground featuring creatures from levels 66 to 72. The Den has an even mix of the undead and the living. It's also the site of Elanthia's best Eyes Wide Shut-themed parties.

Adventurers leveling through the area will find themselves pitted against Ivasian inciters, pestilent visions, magna vereri, and enough shirtless incubi to fill a charity calendar.

Ivasian inciters: 66, living.

Dark-eyed incubi: 68, demonic.

Pestilent visions: 70, noncorporeal undead.

Magna vereri: 72, corporeal undead.

Come play, my lords and ladies!

Fun and equally frustrating area. The character I'm exploring with is at the top end of the level range(71) but is frustrated with the high UDF so far. Seems to be higher than other 66-72 areas.

The UDFs are within the normal calculated parameters. What are we comparing to?

I went to check against my normal hunting area(krag yeti, dwellers, and the three different types minotaurs) and I might have been mistaken on how big the difference was. The Den creatures are slightly higher but they are more magic inclined. Saw one incubus that topped 666 UDF.

There seems to be a distinct lack of magna vereri. Are they yet to be released?

The "closed" part of the Abbey has acquired a Confluence entrance. I'm not sure how closed its supposed to be, but if its supposed to be pretty closed those probably shouldn't be getting in.

They were released, but they were being shy.

...now, they're anything but.

Any word on why symbol of seeking doesn't work for Den of Rot?

Warding failed!

>>A dizzying draining sensation heralds a surge of pale blue light that wells up beneath the flesh of your chest, erupting outward as a glowing sapphire ember that races toward the vereri. The sliver loses hue, but not brilliance, as it merges with the vereri's aura.

What is this spell?

It's mana, health, or spirit drain. Not an on-the-books spell, just a warding roll.

Thanks, Auchand. I had never noticed its effect, but as a Rogue none of those harm me much unless repeated multiple times.

Solid strike caves the dark-eyed incubus's skull in, resulting in instant death!
The nearby shadows resound with the impact as an athletic dark-eyed incubus falls to the ground.

That last line is not 712 falling off, is it? If it is I have never seen a retributive flare.

This actually worries Clunk, he thinks its a sign that those serving the vereri have joined some sort of evil society that has an affect on the living similar to that seen by Voln Society members when the undead are released.

Maybe it is their demonic essence returning "from whence it came."

Was it intended that the Visions drop no loot and are not loot-able? Not even casters can loot them as they immediately disappear on death.

Would a Voln SMITE keep them around long enough to loot?

haven't tried it yet myself.

Voln SMITE doesn't keep critters around.

302 Smite sometimes does. Instakills from 302 result in lootable bodies from some critters that normally disperse on death. I've never tested the visions though, and they might not have loot anyway. When I have got loot off a body that normally wouldn't be there to search, that critter drops loot on dispersing.

There are plenty of critters that don't have loot, usually they have skins, but if the designer reckons a critter isn't the sort of thing that would carry loot, they don't have loot. If the vision is intended to be your own mental projection which the experience of Rot has provoked in you, any loot it has will also be imaginary.
