What a year it has been! Following up on prior accidental discoveries, I have endeavored to explore the concept of quick-hardening cheese for use as emergency armor material in more depth. Test batches tend to lean towards an unfortunate tendency towards turning brittle and more cheese-like over time, not to mention that under siege conditions it would be more practical to use the materials for other things (like, say, actually feeding people). Another unexpected side effect: heat reaction from catalytic effects had the side effect of bursting one of the test vats, leaving me encased up to the waist in rapidly hardening mithril-grade cheddar. Fortunately, I was able (with some assistance) to get extricated. Eventually. *
In more recent developments I was appalled as to how easily the walls of Icemule can be circumvented - in this case by simply being stepped over. As much of the previous complied suggestions for defenses the Guard has made was previously based on Elvish incursions being the most immediate threat at the time, I have made a number of additional suggestions for improvements that we might be able to employ if oversized hostiles should threaten the town; said suggestions (which for safety's sake I have not listed here) have been passed on to officers in the Guard. Unfortunately usability of some measures may require advance notice, but what can be done? One goes to war with what one has at the time.
More to follow when the opportunity presents itself.
* Designing the cutting equipment was easy. Making it all small enough for the mice to use... that's the hard part.
