As the player of a Katana+Shield characters who also uses a quarterstaff on occasion, I've recently wondered why the Reverse Strike weapon technique is so underwhelming...
I love reaction techniques, but Reverse Strike sticks out somewhat like a sore thumb compared to the reactions available to the other weapon styles. For those who are unaware: https://gswiki.play.net/Category:Reaction_skills
- Riposte (edged): Triggered on parry, an unaimed melee attack that applies the Weakened Armament debuff
- Spin Kick (brawling): Triggered on evade, an unaimed SMR attack that does impact damage and has a chance to "double kick" when paired with Kick Specialization
- Clobber (blunt): Triggered on parry, unaimed SMR attack that does concussion damage which is improved by one's Strength bonus
- Reactive Shot (ranged): Triggered on evade, unaimed ranged attack that applies the Disengaged debuff
- Radial Sweep (polearm): Triggered on evade, block, or parry, an unaimed SMR area-of-effect attack that does unbalance damage and applies the Vulnerable and Staggered debuffs with a 15 second cooldown
- Reverse Strike (two-handed): Triggered on parry, an unaimed melee attack
I'm omitting the other two-handed weapon reaction, Overpower, because it's triggered by a very different mechanic than the other reaction skills - it procs when the TARGET of your attack evades, blocks, or parries the attack, rather than when you evade, block, or parry an attack.
So, looking at all these skills, Reverse Strike stands out as being the least interesting. It procs on only one type of EBP avoidance; it is a standard melee attack; it provides no buff or debuff; it's effectiveness is not increased by any stats; it's a single target technique; and it isn't improved by any other maneuver knowledge. Pretty meh, right?
I'd like to suggest that Reverse Strike be improved to proc on either Evade or Parry. I think that would provide a nice, unique benefit compared to the other reaction techniques and fits in quite well with the two-handed weapon style. Thanks for your consideration.
