I have struggled with this syntax since ... 2014.

I can stop my own songs easily enough, STOP SINGING. They ALL poof.

But STOP NATURAL COLORS? Nope.

From a discussion today on the HELP channel, I was told I had to use the spell number to do this.

So sorry, this is not cool. I can sing these spells without their numbers, why can I not stop them?

INCANT ELEMENTAL TARGETING
- works just fine
STOP ELEMENTAL TARGETING
- No dice.

I don't need this often, and I do not feel like having to write a script to look up all the numbers for me and then stop the spells. I do not play multiple characters, I have zero idea what the spells are on other lists, who can cast them, and I certainly do not know their spell numbers.

Could we either get a STOP <Spell name> that works ... or get a STOP ALL? Or something?

Thank you ever so much for your consideration.

Luxie

You can do this, but you have to type the spell pneumonic, not the entire spell name.

For 601/Natural Colors, the spell pneumonic is "NTRCOLOR".

With a moment's concentration, you terminate the Natural Colors spell.
You return to normal color.

Both spell numbers and spell pneumonics are on the wiki.

But.. with the scenario you described, it sounds like you want an easy way to be able to reference what spell number (or spell pmenumonic) goes with each spell, while maintaining the full spell name in your SPELL ACTIVE list. The only two player-side solutions I can see here are either to turn your FLAG SHOWSPELLNAME OFF, which will replace the entire spell names with their numbers, or to write (or ask for someone to write) a script that will automatically convert the out put of a full spell name to full spell name + number (or pneumonic).

Staff side, I can see the merits of requesting a flag that would allow both the full spell name AND the spell number (or pneumonic), instead of just one or the other.

"pneumonic", a respiratory ailment.

"mnemonic", something that helps you remember.

Yes, I am aware. If you want to nit pick spelling go for it. But if you want to address the actual point of my post, I would much rather welcome that as actual feedback.

I do understand there are workarounds to make this work.

What I'm asking for is a consistent way to make spells start and stop. I learned my spells by name. I know SOME spells by name from other people. SPELL ACTIVE gives me the names of the ones I just do not know.

If we can start a spell with its name, we should be able to stop them with their name.

Please? Otherwise, it just adds to the tremendous learning curve of GS in a needless exercise of frustration.

I've hidden a couple of posts in this thread.

Friendly reminder. Not everyone places high emphasis on spelling and grammar mistakes as long as their general ideas and concepts are being clearly conveyed. Threads and topics can also be derailed with aggressive and unwanted policing. If you feel the need to correct someone, and they aren't receptive, then it's in everyone's best interest to move on.
