Recently Mayor Walkar met with townspeople outside of Moot Hall to announce his new appointments to the Town Council. The mayor went on to say, "We have had a tumultuous last year, regarding the leadership of our town. From good-willed council members being assassinated by Grishom's minions, to others being corrupted by greed and power, our town council has been left empty and sorely in need of mending. I have spent many weeks speaking with our town's militia and merchants and many citizens as well, as I set about to select new councilors to help our town prosper. I am confident in my choices and I'm thankful they have accepted the roles. In the near future, our own Judge Renpaw will be releasing proper rulings to further define the limitations of both the town council and my own position. Wehnimer's Landing faces too many threats at large, and so I will do all I can to ensure danger never comes from our own leaders."
The mayor then introduced all of the new council members, their titles and some brief background about them.
Councilman Khylon was named the Steward of the Militia. Khylon had previously been the town's marshal, overseeing the hired mercenaries that helped protect the city last year. With the return of power to Mayor Walkar and the restoration of the militia, the mayor felt it best that the marshal position be eliminated, and that the militia matters be handled by a seat on the council. Khylon's primary role on the council will be to manage the training and recruiting of the town's militia.
Councilman Jenkin was named the Steward of the Coffers. Jenkin is the owner of the local Scrivener's Shop and his store was badly burned during the demon invasions last year. As repairs and the restocking his inventory is still a goal for Jenkin, he will be spending the rest of his time overseeing the coffers of Wehnimer's Landing and ensuring accuracy and the proper accountability that was severely lacking in the past. He is currently helping to assign funding to rebuilding projects around town, for buildings damaged during the invasions and the construction of new archery towers.
Councilman Stephos was named the Steward of the Guilds. All prominent town merchants held a guild vote and elected Stephos as their representative seat on the council. With the mayor's agreement, the appointment became official. Originally from the major port city of Idolone, Stephos had married a half-elven woman, but because the city regards non-humans with suspicion, Stephos and his bride decided to leave and forge a new life in Wehnimer's Landing over twenty years ago. Spending most of his time working in some fashion within the Merchant's Guild, very few shopkeepers had any opposition to the appointment of Stephos, confident in his ability to keep their best interests in mind.
Councilman Deylan was named the Plenipotentiary of Wehnimer's Landing. When asked a bit about his background, Deylan's response was "I'm from a little bit of everywhere. It only matters that I call Wehnimer's home now." Deylan's primary role will be as the mayor's envoy to other cities or territories, as he will often be called to leave home and spend his time abroad, rebuilding and nurturing relationships with other leaders and keeping the council aware of events beyond the frontier.
