To all visitors and residents of the Isle of Four Winds:
URGENT
At this time, it appears that the one called Pashtal has managed to empower the statues stationed about town to raise a steady, constant stream of undead! I implore all of you to take precautions until we can find some method of protecting the Isle. For now, and until this threat can be neutralized somehow, the Isle should be considered UNSAFE for casual travel. Word will be sent when this threat has passed.
~Zofiya, Interim Administrator of Mist Harbor
OOC: Until such time as the statues can be powered down, undead will be generating in Mist Harbor. This takes as long as it takes, and can be shut down automatically if the players can find how to do so. There is a time limit, after which I will move things along, but it is not measured in days. Until that happens, all are advised that travel on Four Winds Isle is inherently dangerous (which is why your transporters will warn you of such), and that precautions are to be taken!
~ASGM Quilic

>What do you mean?
You're not part of the story line, you have no effective way to interact with the plot other than being cheesed by critters which massively outlevel you.
I regard being cheesed while a GM is actively participating as reasonable, and being cheesed when there's no possibility of GM interaction as abusive.
I only logged in because it was fixskills day and there was some really cheesy mechanics used on me. Something like adding 15 critters worth of FoF pushdown so a couple of level 60 critters with claids actually got enough pushdown to hit a capped character with 110 ranks MOC. Its not just getting cheesed by critters 80 levels over you, there's mechanics being used to cheese you with critters 40 levels under you.

"You're not part of the story line, you have no effective way to interact with the plot..." -- Rathboner
I'm picking this piece specifically, because that's why I made the post I did to try and help those not part of the story, or aware of it, to be able to interact with this current situation. To be a part of the current plot I literally think is just a matter of "go kill stuff in the name of protecting the town" or "go look around for anything that might be used to hide a statuette of Jaston" or "just think of ways to interact with whatever puzzle this is."
Hopefully it accomplished that as I do agree with you, and it did feel like there was a bit of a void for those who have no idea what's going on.
That all said...
1) I definitely feel your thoughts are valid. I do disagree, but not completely, and certainly not in a "you're wrong!" way :)
2) I don't think there will ever be a middle ground on this. I definitely love when towns get disrupted like this. I love when the world "changes" from what we're used to. I am perfectly okay going out of my way to somewhere else to handle business. I understand that others don't and really dislike the disruption.
The reason I don't think there'll be a middle ground is because I think Quilic has done a fantastic job making it the least disruptive as possible.
It sounds like you logged into a bad spot and got hit right away. Now that you know, that shouldn't happen again.
Right now all teleporters (including grounded ones) are taking people to GC. The areas are well segmented and the major sections (gem shop, pawn shop, bank, Sadie scrolls) are completely safe. I think the worst spots are the locksmith pool (level 30ish creatures), the obelisk for the Premium contest (level 80ish creatures), and I THINK the rogue's guild area entrance area (same thing, in the 80ish area).
You do have to run through the 60ish area to get out the south gate for natural hunting / warcamps / bandits, but anyone doing bandits is going to be able to survive no problem.
